Re: Baseball team's hat logo
Nike is just giving new uni's. I dont think the logo will change.
WV state could be WVU. WV state has like 6 D1 transfers. If they pitched their number one against wvu's number one. State takes it. I think state wins a seven game series 4-2.

Re: Baseball team's hat logo
In baseball any team could be another team on a given day, that's why they play the games. It's very possible for State to beat WVU, it would be possible for Potomac State to beat WVU as well. Now saying State is better than WVU is not necessarily true. State might have a better pitching staff. They definitely have a better coach...
WVU is young this year and will likely beat the teams like Hartford and other weak out of conference teams that Van Zant schedules. Then they will again probably struggle against Big East teams.
Also, those hats from WV Gameday are not the actually baseball hats. The baseball team is sponsored by Lousiville TPX and have the TPX logo on the back of the hat.

Re: Baseball team's hat logo
WVU won 36 games last year against an all D-1 schedule and that including going 14 and 13 in the Big East. Do you really think STAte could have a winning record in the Big East Conference? I dont think so. So State has 6 transfers from WVU? The only one that has actually been a Significant loss is Brandon Halstead and possibly Travis Mcgrath but other than that they have been jokes.

Marshall is in a better conference. We played a bunch of glorified high schools last year until the BE games started. Our schedule was in the 150-200 range. And zack Baldwin transfered from wvu to state and was drafted last year out of wv state. Halstead will be drafted this year. Van Zant will never be fired because he does what the AD wants. And that is to sit back shut up and dont ask for money. WVU doesnt want a good baseball team because it would take away money from the football and basketball team. Van Zant has burnt all his bridges in the southern part of the state. Every freshman gets an offer of $1000. And he never offered Alex Wilson at all. He thinks that every instate baseball player wants to play at WVU and that they should be honored to even get a call when in fact WVU isnt very good. Many instate kids are seeing that there are better things out there. They are leaving and he sits back and cant figure out why. He cant figure out that other schools are offering more than 1,000 dollars to get players. Marshall does the same thing. But the new coach at MU is changing things and is starting to recruit the state again. A lot of high school talent is in WV baseball and they all are leaving.

Re: Baseball team's hat logo
The Big East may not be the best baseball conference but its 10 times better than the WVIAC will ever be. State plays the likes of D&E, Bluefield, and UC on a weekly basis and your saying those are not glorified high schools? WVU plays Notre Dame, St, Johns, South Florida, and Louisville on a weekly basis. I agree Marshall does play in decent baseball conference because anytime Rice and Houston in your conference is pretty good league. And if your going to post you might want to get your facts straight. Zach Balwdin started at Coastal Carolina( Not WVU like you said in a previous post) and never pitched so then returned to play at State.

I think the should never change the hat. However I do wish they'd put an outline of the state in center field.

Re: Baseball team's hat logo
van zant doesnt make much money and neither does his assistants. he doesnt break rules and his teams competes every 3 or 4 years. he runs a pretty clean program and provides no trouble to the athletic department. unless they want to all of a sudden field a really competitive program that has aspirations of making it to omaha, van zant will be coach for a long time

He will be here as long as he doesnt ask for a lot of money. he made 75,000 last year after camps. He does however do a lot of things the athletic department doesnt know about.

Re: Baseball team's hat logo
I don't know, but to be honest I don't care.
Last summer when I was in Morgantown on vacation with my mom and step dad I bought a TPX baseball cap. I think it's sharp as hell and I wear it around base all the time.

Re: Baseball team's hat logo
State doesnt have 6 transfers from WVU. Travis McGrath went to WVU for a year and then transferred to State. Halstead went to WVU for a year then to Surry Community College in hopes of being drafted. Had to have shoulder surgery and transferred to State. Im pretty sure they are the only two who went to WVU. Ryne Holstine was close to signing with WVU but talked to some people who advised him otherwise.

Joe Quattrochi tried out for WVU as a walk on but didn't make it.

Re: Baseball team's hat logo
Coach Nehlen changed the colors when he got here to Michigan colors. He also installed the flying WV. Guess we can either thank him or blame him. Soccer also wore Old Gold and Blue, very sharp unis.

Re: Baseball team's hat logo
I have a family member being recruited by WVU as a pitcher. Can anyone elaborate if WVU is a good place to play baseball or any info in regards to the program.

Re: Baseball team's hat logo
akronbuck, I can tell you that this message board is not the place to get accurate information on your question. If you read this board for any length of time you will learn that: 1, Beilein is a bad coach because his teams got ourebounded in most of the games the basketball team won, 2, Rod is a bad offensive coach because we don't pass for 200 yds a game, 3, Notre Dame is a no-name school that drags down the Big East, 4, the administration at WVU, from the president on down, has trouble finding its way home, much less fulfilling its responsibilities, etc, ad naseum

Re: Baseball team's hat logo
I heard that next year's new nike baseball uniforms will have the official school logo on them (the flying WV). Heard it from a reliable source.
Can anyone confirm that?

Re: Baseball team's hat logo
Akron, from personal experience, I can tell you that Van Zant encourages lots of kids to come back (over and over ) to his camps with the impression that he is genuinely interested in them and after the "camp" (with very little instruction) is over and the money is in the bank, the kids find out that he is not so interested after all.
I hope the coach has sent an offer letter or some other tangible form of proof that your relative will be recruited; otherwise, take it all with a grain of salt.
This may not be the case with a majority of players he shows interest in, but I am aware of several.
