Re: Why do the Kimble threads keep getting removed??

Honestly, as the Mountaineer, he is the biggest attention whore I've ever seen. Most Mountaineers know their place. No one is there to see the Mountaineer. The Mountaineer is there to enhance the gameday experience. It doesn't look like he thinks that. Seems like he thinks everyone is there to see him...

I saw this coming miles away. He has tried all year to outdo past Mohntaineers. Looks like he pushed it too far

He is one if the best Mountaineers we have ever had. He is always moving through the stands during the games motivating the fans, He works hard. He job is to be an attention whore.

He represents a mountain man , a man who lives on the frontier and hunts!!! I know that MW who made the rifle is happy he is actually used it for real.

I don't like hunting but respect those who do.

I have not hunted in some time. I have no objection to hunting for food however I am not a fan of hunting for sport or whatever you call it.

I believe there are two things at play here. One is people perceive this as sport hunting or senseless killing of an innocent animal for the wrong purpose. I would not have shot that bear under those circumstances myself.

The other is the fact that this person is representing all who call themselves Mountaineers, the state, the school, etc.

The majority of us are not the type to kill an innocent animal in that manner to make a youtube video and I'm not talking about just people on this board.

I imagine there will be another Mountaineer next year and that is sad because I myself really liked Kimble but he may not overcome this stunt.

Bear hunting is questionable enough what with the dogs and all but shooting one that looks like a German Shepherd ten foot up a treat while ten people stand around cheering is not a good representation of Mountaineer Nation.

Now if he wants to find a 300 pound bear charging him thats a horse of a different color.....

Everyone is a critic yet no one has any idea what they're talking about. It cracks me up to see people on here who probably have never met the guy call him an attention whore, a douche, and whatever else you fools are saying. If you ever met Jon Kimble you would know that he's one of the nicest, most humble guys you could ever meet. He's enthusiastic about the Mountaineers and he represents this state and University extremely well. If you don't like what he did you have every right to say so but stop belittling one of the best Mountaineers we have ever had just because he's a true outdoorsman. This incident doesn't make him a bad person so quit trying to paint him in that light.

I can agree with everything you just said but it was not a well thought out stunt.

Hell I can overlook it but I don't think others will and it bothers me because I think he makes a great Mountaineer....hopefully it will turn out alright.

You're correct about it not being a well thought out stunt. However, in his defense, I haven't heard one hardcore outdoorsman say that they thought there was anything wrong with what he did (you could argue about the dogs treeing the bear but it's not illegal therefore, is it really his fault?). Jon epitomizes a true outdoorsman. That explains why I'm sure it never crossed his mind that this would be a bad idea. For the exact same reason that the vast majority of hunters don't see anything wrong with it. It's just the mentality.

I've pretty much gotten past it, but some people keep bring it up. It is what it is, what's done is done. Time to move on. But then again, I don't have a problem with it. Not the smartest choice to post it though. Once it's on the internet, it's on there forever.

I could do without the psycho looks at the TV camera and the chest thumping. Especially when followed up by girl/half pushups. noidea

The only thing creating negative publicity is the complete overreaction to this "incident". ohlord

removed from his position? dont you guys think thats a bit of an overreaction?

the only reason you even say that now is because it got some bad press. If it had been well received and people were syaing it was awesome then you wouldnt feel that way.

He's a college student, he has no PR firm to advise him, he's proud of HIMSELF and he's not shy about showing it. It's really sad that some people want to throw the guy under a bus just for a semi-poor judgement call that can be blamed more on lack of wisdom (due to age). He gets a pass in my book.

But I still think it's cool he went bear hunting with THE rifle. You'll never convince me otherwise. cool

---------------------------------------------

And by "fixed" you meant "inserted my opinion"

Do you know Jonathan Kimble well enough to say this? I doubt it. You should probably take a second to "think critically" instead of "be critical".

Re: Why do the Kimble threads keep getting removed??

I've met Kimble many times actually. I still think he's a jerk...

Yea former Mountaineers try to entertain and enhance gameday for the fans, but Jonathan makes it about himself.

Example: after the capital classic, he runs out on the floor and tried his best to get into the team picture around the trophy. Why does he need to be in that photo? He had nothing to do with that win. Luckily a photographer waved him off. They probably didn't show that on TV, but that's the kind of stuff he does all the time to get himself in the spotlight

I've known Kimble for most of my life. I wouldn't call us best buds but we're definitely friends. I can honestly say that you are the first person I have ever heard say he is a jerk. You're entitled to your opinion but you're definitely in the minority.

He acted like a douche on camera.

Now he is being ridiculed for it.

It seems fair to me.

You must not come here often

Many townies (Morgantown) and many university employees think he's either a weirdo, socially awkward, a douche or a jerk (depending on their experience with him)

Then why did they make him the mountaineer?

Re: Why do the Kimble threads keep getting removed??

I was born and raised in WV and graduated from WVU, but now live in California.

I've never hunted.

I don't see how killing a small bear for the sake of killing an animal is cool, funny, awesome or has ANYTHING to do with West Virginia University or the beauty of the state and the wild and wonderful life contained therein.

I presume that it is legal, but that has nothing to do with being a representative of the WVU.

He is a mascot. I can't imagine any mascot from another school or pro sports team killing an animal and posting it on you tube or facebook without facing negative publiticty.

Wrong board... maybe try "Into the Wild" since it involves hunting?

Well fellas, we had a good run but it seems obvious its time for another female Mountaineer. Yay, further proof of the castration of the American male..
