Game of the Week - 0-8 Canyon vs. 0-8 Golden Valley

Game of the Week - 0-8 Canyon vs. 0-8 Golden Valley

Well, we've been working toward this all season and now the stage has been set.  One of these teams will not end the season having only losses.  Who will it be?

Will the first ever loss to West Ranch totally demoralize Canyon?

Does the offensive burst by Golden Valley last week against Saugus make them believe they have a shot against Canyon's porous defense?

Will this be the game that you can point to as the end of Varner's career at Canyon?

Will a couple of additional games be added to Canyons schedule so they can get the 2 or 3 or more wins predicted by OldSchool?

As much as I'd like to see Canyon lose just to see Varner go, I'll go out on a limb and say 24-21 Canyon.

Do you really think this is going to be the end of Varner's stint at Canyon?  I don't see that happening.

Calpreps has the game projected at 40-19. I would assume that means that their system has not fully calculated in GV's new ability to score. Their are significant personnel changes that are responsible for the difference between last week and prior weeks, although, against Valencia, the result is still acurate. Defensively, I don't know if GV can do better than the 40 projected for Canyon. One thing I do know, is that the Grizzly team believes they can do better than this projection.

Re: Was it Old School that I saw ..............

this game will probably go in the cowboys favor. question is how much mental gas does canyon have in the tank. canyon has got to be running on mental reserve with all the bad luck this season. golden valley seems energized from friday night but that does not guarantee a win. the crazy thing is that several sophmores on both sides of the ball will be key players in this game friday night  for both teams along with both schools going with sophomore quarterbacks. good luck to both teams. whoever thought a 0-8 game would be so visible. oldy should not be taken lightly. hes not wrong very often.

You don't cuz it won't happen 10 ......

If the success of the Football Program meant anything to Bob Messina . Harry Welch would still be at Canyon and a 0 - 10 or 1 - 9 season wouldn't be a topic of discussion rolleyes

We'd be talkin about how much he cheated and how great a game Ryan Kasdorf had and playoffs and whatnot ......

Going to take some MAJOR changes to make an improvment at Canyon ....... We'll see won't we ?

The Banner is just the beginning ......

If The Boy's lose to GV on friday you might witness some even more craziness at Harry Welch Stadium ...

Varner might want to pack a pistol eek1

Hard to imagine that Canyon could score 40.  They'd need to get some takeaways and not turn the ball over.  Something that has not been happening much this year.

Coach Varner is not the reason Canyon is having such a tough year -  I doubt few of the "name" coaches

in this area could have great success with up to 10 starters out for injuries resulting in a visible lack of

size in both lines and some players not tackling like they should on defense.  I was on the sidelines at

one Canyon game and, although the coaching staff was continually encouraging the players to make

a sustained effort, the boys themselves didn't seem like they cared that much about making the type

of effort to win.  I feel sorry for Coach Varner and I know that things will get better in the future for him

since he's doing the right things and standing for the right values.  Go Cowboys!

Re: Game of the Week - 0-8 Canyon vs. 0-8 Golden Valley

OK lets settle down everyone. There will be no upset at Canyon this week. While getting better with moving up talented underclassmen like Canyon did at the start of the year, GV still has a ways to go (did I read it right in the signal last week that GV only has 3 full time varsity coaches?) and even the Cowboys this low will not be beat by the Grizz on Friday night. Oldy, you disappoint me not standing by your 'Boys through both the good and the bad times, talking about jumping ship....wtf? I'm hoping to see a semi-competitive game from the start with scoring from both sides in the first half & not a blowout like 'Preps is projecting. Lots of pride will go into this game from both sides and when they kick it off at 7 o'clock on Friday night no one on the field or in the stands will care what their record is.

Oldy, you know better than that.  Harry was leaving either way, and Messina was the scapegoat.  So if Varner is staying, what would be a MAJOR change besides the head coach? Although had he stayed you are right about the cheating and Kas. excited
