So with all that talent why haven't they won the big cigar? I think the answer has been stated several time over the years. Chaminade is one-dimensional. Which means the reason why they haven't won the big cigar is coaching.
Maybe it's time for Chaminade to dump their good coach for a great coach
Croson is a great coach and Chaminade has loads of talent, I dont know what talent other schools have , so I go by results and last year Chaminade was the last team playing and lost a closer game (2 points) on the road, to a higher state ranked team (Serra #5)than any of the other local schools did in their final game.
ND lost by 7 to SJB, #9 Alemany by 11 to MD #10, SB by 21 to Mater Dei #10, Oaks lost by 1 to ND #19, Hart lost by 21 to PV #34, Valencia lost by 17 to PV #34.
If you want to talk about the past and Championships, I guess we can.......
In
2009 Croson took over a Chaminade program that had only won 2 games (on the field) in ’08. In the three years since his return the eagles played in the quarterfinals in ’09 (7-5-0) and the semifinals in ’10 (11-3-0) and ’11 (10-3-0) and the finals in 2012 (12-2-0). The eagles have been ranked in the top 10 by the Daily News and the C.I.F. every week since September of ’09. In 2000, Croson inherited a Birmingham program that was a combined 3-17 from 1998-99 and had not captured its league title since 1969. Croson proceeded to lead the school to league championships in 2000, '01, '03, '06 and '07. The Patriots earned Los Angeles City titles in 2002, '04, '06 and '07, finishing the 2007 season in the USA Today Top 20 national rankings and ranked #1 in Southern California by the L.A. Times. In the back to back City Championship years (’06 & ’07) coaches’ team outscored their playoff opponents by combined score of 336 – 39. Coach was inducted into the Birmingham H.S. Hall of Fame this past spring. Croson and his staff have been selected high school Coach of the Year by the L.A. Times (2000), Daily News (’02,’04), L.A. City Section (’01, ’04, ’06, ’07) and the Valley Youth Conference (’03). In 2007 they won the Schutt Sports U.S.A high school coach of the year for the western region. Croson has been Head Coach for the East vs West H.S. all-stars (’96, ’01, ’08) and assistant coach for the California vs Florida all stars (’04). He spent the summer of ’09 in Canton, Ohio coaching team U.S.A. to the gold medal in the I.F.A.F. (19 & under) Jr World Championship.......
Croson has won more championships(2002, 2004, 2006, 2007) than any of these coaches over the past 10 years and has a more recent championship than all but Therrian.
Maybe all these teams should get rid of their coaches?
When was the last time that these guys won the "Big Cigar"?
Herrington Alemany-- Never as a HS head coach that I know of
Therrian SB--2008 and 2007
Rooney ND--2002, 2003 and 2004 (currently has three straight losses to Croson teams)
Herrington Hart--2003
Muir Valencia---never (currently 2 stright losses to Croson teams)
Lins MP--2006
But this is all in the past......2013 will be a new year and a new teams.
