Re: Northern Area Re-Leaguing

I hope that the East and west Marmonte leagues will end the final game matchups for the overall Marmonte champion like last season. Otherwise the East is going to take a severe beating. Adding Oxnard to Marmonte seems like a more logical spot. They can be quite competitive at times. Also the once mighty small league TVL looks like a cemetery now.

Re: Northern Area Re-Leaguing

The East Marmonte League would be in a different playoff division. They do not belong with the larger marmonte League schools.

I took into consideration that Villanova moved to 8-man and LaReina has no football.

Not sure why OP would be moving up a league after having 2 losing seasons in a row.

This is for all sports. Their volleyball and basketball programs are top in the state.

Re: Northern Area Re-Leaguing

Nordhoff, while better than most all central coast teams this season, and certainly able to compete with anyone in the 805 other than Oaks, SB, Westlake and Lompoc, ought to be able to compete for CIF titles against other public schools in the 750-1250 size.  Yeah, they can, and regularly beat up on school over twice their size, but come playoff time they need to be competing against similar schools (unless, of course, they really want to take on the bigger dogs in the playoffs.)

Schools like Fillmore, Santa Paula, Carpinteria, Oak Park, Santa Ynez, Cabrillo, Nipomo, Morro Bay, Templeton, etc. - One HS towns -- it's apples and apples.  I'm NOT looking for an easy road -- just a fair road.  (Maybe Agoura, Calabasas, Rio Mesa too).

I don't have a problem with the privates competing against the publics, but they must be re-evaluated every other year to keep them in the appropriate league, particularly for football.

Otherwise, considering the chart above, I'd just put Nordhoff in the Channel and the Nard in the Pac View.  And for that matter, Bishop Diego should be in the Channel too, at least for football.

Re: Northern Area Re-Leaguing

You are such a big fan for Nordhoff but really, only 4 teams you caan't compete year in and year out from Calabasas north to Paso Robles?

HA HA HA HA

Overall the Pac-7 was down this year but 75% of the time there are at least 4 teams & sometimes 6 teams that would dismantle the Hoff.

Even in a down year for the Pac-7 Templeton & MB were no match for any of the Pac-7 teams they played.

Hoff is a good little school but don't over play your hand wink

Beercat, maybe you can weigh in on this comment I have, shed some light. Both Nordhoff and Bishop proved they can play and win against the bigger schools. Doesn't a Channel league with the following schools make sense..
Santa Barbara
San Marcos
Dos Pueblos
Bishop
Carp
Nordhoff
From Goleta to Ojai. That's gotta be nice come league play time.

Re: Northern Area Re-Leaguing

Toss SM out wink

But the big question is can the smaller schools play a full season against bigger linemen? If your healthy your OK but then when you have someone go down the backups are usually not as good. Saint Joe is a perfect example. They usually field a smaller team, they play tough with the big boys in the Pac-7 but just a few injuries and it's lights out.

I looked at Nordhoff's Roster. Some big kids but short and round. wink

Re: Northern Area Re-Leaguing

I've been watching Nordhoff for about 5 years, and they just must not grow 'em as big in Ojai as other places - like Lompoc.  Maybe not enough bacon cheeseburgers. noidea I think Nordhoff could handle life in the Channel just fine -- it's the playoffs that would be no fun.

Beercat -- (like you) I've watched every team in SLO and SB county (ok, not MP or CU or Shandon) and most of Ventura county over the years.  I know what AG is capable of doing. I know how solid most of the Pac-7 can be, and they all seem to take turns having up and down years.  I think it's one of the best, most interesting leagues around -- you never know.  The LPL schools can get hot and field some really good teams as well.  NOT sayin' Nordhoff would own 'em, but just that based on what I've seen for the past 5 seasons, the can play with almost any of them, and this past year in particular.

What I'm ALSO saying is that I'd hate to see them stuck in a larger school division come playoff time.  Look at Paso.  What's happened since the 90's in the playoffs?  Those were some great years playing A-town and Monrovia for championships.

Re: Northern Area Re-Leaguing

Paso, Atown & SKO all field very good teams for public schools of their size. Problem is we are in a division with good schools that a bigger.

Look at the playoff situation.

Valencia 3100
Paso Robles  1900

Palmdale  3100
Atascadero 1600

Canyon 2500
Atascadero 1600

West Torrance 2200
Atascadero 1600

Canyon  2500
San Luis Obispo 1400

The 3 little public schools in the Pac-7 are typically to good to be in with the Pac-View or the Channel but typically not good enough to win a divisional title with the bigger boys in the Northern.

Look at Monrovia, why are they still in the lil' boy Divison? Some very good games a decade ago between Paso & Monrovia. We went up & up again and they went down a division, don't figure as they have great teams and over 1600 kids.

Re: Northern Area Re-Leaguing

why is the "Hoff" in the Oxnard Schools League?  Nordhoff needs to be in the Channel, especially since it sits geographically right in the middle of the Ventura and SB County schools, put Oxnard back in the PVL, put Nova in the Frontier, etc.

Re: Northern Area Re-Leaguing

I've been watching and playing Nordhoff football for 48 yrs. We won, one CIF title !! That doesn't mean we have to play up ! give us a break. How many years before Oaks or Bonnie moved up ? We should be able to play schools our own size.
