Like they say...Talk is cheap.

If thats the case why doesnt Lompoc back up the talk and schedule some good teams down south in a one time away game instead of playing a bunch of average to poor teams year in and year out? Teams down here dont need to travel 200 miles to find great competition so you may have to concede a one year away deal to make it appealing. There are multiple top 25 teams in the state within 200 miles of Lompoc so get busy and schedule one or 2 of them. There are 10 Lompocs within 20 miles of Nade so whats the point of traveling 120-200 miles to play any team from the central Coast?

You people up north just dont seem to get the fact that people in los Angeles and the surrounding suburbs dont need to travel up there, period. its not an elitist attitude, as you may think it is. Its just a fact, it is what it is .

There is nothing up there that we cant find much more abundently down here.

Re: One thing you'll never hear...

First of all, I find some irony in the fact that a private school is complaining about travel.  I am sure those coach/charter buses must be terrible when the DVD player stops working and the heater goes out.

When public funding was better, Lompoc did travel to Los Altos and Chino, who were both ranked relatively high at the time.  I think the body of work certainly exists over the years.  Unfortunately, in todays day and age, those games are much harder to come by.  I wouldnt expect someone from a private school to relate or understand.  Additionally, Lompoc did play Frontier, from the Central Section, and they seem to be doing well.  Frontier is coached by a former Lompoc player and it turned out to be a decent game.

As you said, it will all play out on the field.  I hope your charter buses are comfy.  Sometimes I guess its better to buy a title (and complain about it) than it is to earn one.

When was the last time Lompoc intentionally scheduled a top rated socal team?

Never?

AC you cant be serious to think that the CIF has done a good job setting up divisions when they have teams from los angeles and further south play in divisions that include teams 220 miles away.

Nobody in their right mind could possibly think this is good for the sport, the kids, the parents etc.

blah2Lompoc had a home and home with Oaks Christian in Lompocs down years, as well as an away game at Chino, Moorpark, Quartz Hill and a home and home with Los Altos.

Those are some big name schools. To think you packed them all into a single decade is amazing.

I do understand the differences between schools on the central Coast and in Los Angeles and it has as much to do with geography as public private.
Im not here to put down Lompoc or the Central Coast teams, just pointing out the  differences in schools based on location and yes I am complaining about schools  being forced to drive 200 miles from urban areas among hundreds of high schools  to rural areas at the borders of the CIFSS.

Nade would play Lompoc today in a dirt lot in front of nobody. Thats not the point.

RE: One thing you'll never hear...

Lompoc is as solid of a program as there is in socal. Sound both fundamentally and schematically, they play physical, and dont beat them selves. Other than Napolean Koffman, have they had many other big time players come outta there? They epitomize what it means to play as a team, and almost always play above their talent level.

As for the playoff pairings and brackets, look, socal is home to over 30 million people, making a need for hundreds of high schools. Its virtually impossible to create a system where competitive balance is coupled with proximity. The cif does its best to balance each division, you guys know they weigh team wins, league wins, and look to make adjustments every 2 years to create as level of a playing field as possible, but it will never be perfect. Of the hundreds of programs in socal, truth is, too many of them arent competitive enough to make the cifs job easier.

I for one, enjoy seeing teams travel a great distance to play, and watching different commuties support their kids. 2 programs who know nothing about one another add intrigue to a game, and the kids typically are genuinely motivated also. They are not intimidated or otherwise over confident based on all the familiarity they may have with a program down the street. I will admit that is sucks for parents, but your kid only gets one hs experience, why waste time complaining about travel time, enjoy the opportunity to compete!

Travel time = 3 hours = team bonding, seeing a different part of the State, etc

I sure hope it is a Lompoc - Chaminade final in So Cal.  Would love to see what all the hoopla with these teams would bring.  Heck, I will even root for the team that has to travel the farthest!biggrin

What Nade has is a team that's still playing right now.

They handled their business in the regular season by beating who they needed to beat - including teams that eliminated top programs from post season play - which landed Nade top seeding in the playoffs.

Nade is heading to Morro Bay because they earned the trip.  They will make the drive and give 100% regardless of the distance or conditions.

Additionally, they'll do their best to settle the outcome ASAP to rest their starters, because every young man on that team fully expects to earn the right to play for a few more weeks.

Those don't sound like prima donnas to me!

You make it seem so wonderful.....

All the players see is traffic a few hills , a few more hills, more traffic, darkness, a locker room a field and an opponent. Then the game is over its dark they are tired and they sit on a bus for 3 1/2 hrs to get home at 2am and if they were successful have to get up to lift, and  watch film the next morning.

I would say 9 out of 10 kids could do without the 7 hours of sitting on a bus with the big payoff being the chance to see a Locker room at Morro Bay High.

But what do I know, maybe its a big party the entire time.

Well Nade I don't disagree with your analysis relative to the way the playoffs are set up. However those teams have to travel the same distances that you do during the playoffs. Everyone is in the same situation. Like I said we traveled to Morro Bay one weekend and Lompoc the next. We did it because we had to. I will tell you one thing, the ride isn't that bad after a playoff win.

Rebel Referred me and the wife to a restarant in Lompoc and the wife got food poisoning that hit her on way home. That was a fun trip. Thank goodness we beat Lompoc.

I understand your point of view about the CIF but why come on here and whine? You still need to go win game.

Be aware that the GRAS will be long and wet and the lights may go out😉

RE: One thing you'll never hear...

Have you ever rode a bus and saw the stud Senior talk to the newly brought up 10th grader that is stoked to be on a road trip?  Team meals ? it all brings a team together... Nadefan look at it this way.Not you having to make the trip. it's all about the boys... that "3 stacks and a rock trip" = MB  will be nothing for the boys after a big win. Go to KSBY.COM for story on MB...Nade  51  MB 6
