Northern Division Predictions

Northern Division Predictions

Hart 31
Palos Verdes 21

Hart is has lost three nail-biters this year.  This time they will win the close one.  BW has another big night!

Canyon 42
Atascadero 28

Canyon fires on all cylinders up in A-Town.  A-town still having a hangover from their huge victory over Palmdale.

Mira Costa 42
West 35

In a rematch between two Bay league teams.  Mira Costa wins again, but not by a large margin like the first game

Quartz Hill 24
Valencia 21

Its going to be freakin cold out in the desert.  The pampered Valencia boys better bring their leg warmers.

Re: Northern Division Predictions

I really hope Valencia wins.  Partly because I want the foothill league to do well but mostly because if Hart wins this Friday I wanna see another great rivalry game.  With st. Joes and P-Dale out of it, it is possible for Hart to play PV, Valencia, then Canyon right?  That would be a great semi finals and finals for us foothill fans

Re: Northern Division Predictions

I would love to see Hart vs. Valencia at COC.  It would be a completely different game not from the standpoint of Hart winning, but strategy.  Hart needs to sling it and see what happens.  If you are going to lose, lose by your strength.

Re: Northern Division Predictions

I was looking at the forecasts for each game and rain is very unlikely to be an issue but temperature and wind could be a factor particularly at Quartz Hill and those two factors plus high humidity could have an impact at A-town.  It's 10:50 as I write this and it's 42 degrees with winds at 17 and gusting up 26 mph in Quartz Hill.  A-town is 47 with winds of 8 and 70% humidity.

It was very "crisp" at Arroyo Grande on Friday and the I noticed the impact in a couple of ways.  First, Hart's kickoff specialist reliably puts it in the endzone about 85% of the time.  On Friday, with the high humidity, cold and at times a little breeze, he did not get it to the endzone a single time in eight kickoffs.  While Hart did not punt during the game, I suspect that AG's punting was a little off because of the weather conditions.

The other thing that happened is a Hart punter returner -- who is extraordinarily surehanded -- dropped two punts, something he has not done in any previous game.  I suspect his hands were getting a little wooden out there.

If it's both very cold and very windy (QH at the moment), the passing game can be really impacted.  The wind makes it tough for the QB to put it on the mark and the cold tends to make both the receiver's hands and the ball pretty stiff.

Re: Northern Division Predictions

Hart Dad I'll give you a better weather report it's cold real cold but no serious wind at the moment ( sometimes a person that lives in Quartz Hill can give a more accurate assessment than a computer)

Re: Northern Division Predictions

Canyon 49
Atown 14. Maybe another td for a town but Canyons playing their best in the playoffs and a town just dosent have the horses as Woli gets another hundred + yard game.

Valencia 42
Quartz Hill 35

Valencia pulls it out.. Malik townstead is key as he hauls in two td passes and a pick

Hart 34
Palos Verdes 21

My Gut says PV.. But Hart beat them in the first round last year @ PV.. Harts improved alot in all aspects of the game since last year this time and learned a lot from CC and Valencia losses. It's going to Be real hard for PV to come to coc and get a W IMO because PV has not played a tough team for a while.. Bay is not tough.. Narbonne week 1. 41-0 loss .. Hart has better defense than a majority of the teams PV has played

Re: Northern Division Predictions

PV @ HART- This could go either way. When Hart played the tough games they lost. Hart has no BIG win. How about injuries or players at only 75% because of injuries. PV has coasted for the last month so they are probably healthy. Though PV does not have a BIG win to hang their hat on just yet they did win the important challenges they faced, something Hart failed to do. Lets just say after Friday one of these 2 teams will have that BIG win under their belt. Frankly I see this game as a toss up.

Canyon @ Atown - Atown will get a challenge from a RB that didn't happen last Friday. However, you can't count on Woli to do it all as the Hounds play against solid RB's all season long. Atown has decent DB's with enough speed and aggression that Canyon may win but not by a huge number. Atown's stadium can be very windy which can effect passing game and the kicking game. Though Canyon is the favorite and rightfully so don't expect a lope sided game. Both teams had a key win this season but both had games they lost or didn't perform up to expectations. I see it something like 35 - 21 Canyon.

Valencia @ Quartz Hill - On paper this game would indicate a Valencia win and it could be a blow out. However, the weather could be a huge factor but probably not enough to keep the Vikings from a win. If the weather isn't a huge factor look for a huge Viking win. If the weather is a factor look for a lower score from Valencia but still a win.

Mira Costa v West Torrance - no matter who wins this will be an offensive joy to watch! One of the possible keys to this game is who is peaking? Mira Costa won during the season but my gut tells me the Warriors could pull an upset here. Who ever wins will win by less than 2 TD's. Total points will be between 80 - 90 points.

Re: Northern Division Predictions

Hart will be in a for a good game, but they will win.  Hart's three tight contests this year all have resulted in lossess.  They find a way to win this one.....

I also like the fact that Hart is at home.....Hart by 10

Re: Northern Division Predictions

It is interesting how similar PV and Hart are based on the Maxpreps game preview (must be maxpreps member to view, its free and took me 5 minutes) stats.  I have not seen PV play this year and did not even see them in the game last year as I had to miss it; so this is all I've got while getting excited for Friday Night!

Points for:            PV: 392     Hart: 425
Points against :    PV: 199     Hart: 135
Scoring average:  PV: 34.3    Hart: 42.9
National ranking:  PV: 351     Hart: 418
State ranking:      PV: 46       Hart: 51
Overall yds/gm:   PV: 327.1   Hart: 330.8
Pv has more rushing yds/gm and Hart has more passing yds/gm.

I simply cannot find a stat that seems to give any real advantage to one team or the other.  Some might say the state ranking does, but 6 spots?  I just don't see any kind of high school ranking system being that accurate.  This should be a great game Friday night!  Happy its at COC, as everyone will have a good view!

Anyone seen both teams play?

Re: Northern Division Predictions

Here is the power rating match-ups for this Friday for the Northern division.

PV 45.6  vs Hart 44.4

Valencia 44.1 vs. Quartz Hills 33.8

Canyon 38.7 vs Atown 29.6

Mira Costa 35.7 vs W. Torrance 34.4

Looks like PV might be the best team left in the conference.   PV is solid not just by power rating but the fact they blew out MC and WT.  PV only lost to Narbonne (66 pr), Central (Fresno 46 pr), and El Toro (55 pr).

Here is my take for Friday night.

Hart and PV (Hart 21-17).  The match-up is very similar to the Tesoro game for Hart and the Moorpark game for PV.  Both close games and could have gone either way.

Valencia and QH (Valencia 31-14).  Paso did give Valencia a run for their money in the 1st round.  But not sure how good QH really is with a 41-3 loss to Palmdale.  I don’t see QH stopping Valencia’s high-powered offense.

Canyon and Atown (Canyon 41-28).  Canyon is too much for Atown, especially now that Canyon seems to have found their defense. Atown will play tough but can they be giant killers again?  Atown was the only Pac 7 team to beat St. Joes.

MC vs W. Torrance (MC 48-41).  Hard to beat a team twice but MC did score 62 the first time they played.  MC’s only losses are to Serra, Loyola and PV.

*One more interesting fact for people who thought the Bay league was not any good.

After one round in the playoffs:

Foothill 3 – 0

Bay 3-1 (only loss was their 4th place team)

Golden 1-4

Pac 7 1-4

Actually, the one loss was Redondo the third place team. West Torrance is an at-large, fourth place team from the Bay League.

Re: Northern Division Predictions

I'm not sure there were really that many people saying the Bay League wasn't really good, just people opining that the Foothill and Pac-7 were tougher, everybody always gave credit to West, Mira Costa and Palos Verdes and were neutral on Redondo.

Re: Northern Division Predictions

PV @ Hart
I like the Indians in a tight one, but a very different game from 2011.  Do the Sea Kings penalize themselves out of it again this year?

Vikes @ Rebels
Cold and windy.  I think this means bad things for VHS.  The super high tech windwall on the one end of Rebel field just not high enough for pass happy Vikes.  QH in a close game.

West v MC
Serious defensive battle the first time...or not.  Im not sure they can reach the 104 points they hit during league play, but I like MC and the over.

The Boys v Atrashcadero
The Hounds caught the Dale without their best player and made the most of it.  Unless Aspay and Woli miss the bus, the Boys win big up north.

Palos Verdes is a very good football team. Hart will have to play its A game to have a shot at winning.

Nobody I know said the Bay was weak. I've said all along that the Bay & Pac-7 matchup well. I've always stated that the Foothill would be considered the top league.

RE: Northern Division Predictions

Valencia had a hard time stopping Palmdales Richard this season..Quartz Hills Burke should cause them similar problems.
Should be a good game on Friday.
