New USC basketball coach?

New USC basketball coach?

Who better to replace Tim Floyd than than Cal St Northridge coach Bobby Braswell? He took his team to the NCAA twice with HS level basketball facilities, junior college size budget, and just above zero talent. He led his ragtag undersized group to a near upset of the century against the 2008 national championship runner-up Memphis.

Braswell earns a peasant's wage by div 1 standards and would be a steal.
No brainer as far as I'm concerned!

You might also check the record books for Floyd's first game as coach at Southern Cal.

Nov. 20th, 2005

Final Score

USC     76

Cal State Northridge  81 (OT)

It's only a matter of time before a topflight coach (Dixon) sees what Carroll saw and comes to USC (Dixon). I thought Floyd was the guy but obviously not. I can't wait to see who it is (Dixon). Only time will tell (Dixon).

Dixon would be a great hire and while I know a lot of UCLA fans don't want that, I personally think it would be great. The more good coaches there are in the conference the better it is for the teams come tourney time. And Dixon is both a good coach and a CLEAN coach which is what USC needs to target this time around. last time they were too worried about fielding a good team by Galen's opening and just ignored how Floyd was building that team.

Arizona is showing it doesn't have to be a multi year deal hell they may end up with the best recruiting class in the conference for 09 and they lost essentially their entire initial class.

The key difference is of course UA isn't on probation and it looks like USC will be, question is just for how long. One good thing about losing 9 players in one offseason is when the NCAA takes scholarships away it won't hurt as much with so many roster spots open.

I actually feel sorry for the USC fans who genuninely didn't know what was going on, the problem is the vast majority of them apparently don't post or read message boards because the people that do spent the Floyd years denying it when being told precisely what he was doing, right up until Floyd quit.

Somewhere out there Rixxs is probably thinking "no wonder he kept saying Mayo would probably end up playing in Europe because he's not an amateur. Too bad USC didn't figure that out."

Dixon wouldn't even give Arizona a sniff.   Why would he consider an even more difficult situation?   And, Arizona attracts nearly 3 times the average attendance.

Can Tyrone Willingham coach basketball. The NCAA loves him.

Don't know about Ty, but Keith Gilbertson might have round ball coaching potential.

At least you know you will have a proven winner, program changer, and non-cheating coach.

I don't like the idea of an NBA guy.  Why not a good college guy like Robinson or Mike Davis?  It seems like MG is targeting these NBA guys.

Still, the sweater vest and stool expenses clause in a contract might prove to be an insurmountable negotiating issue.

Re: New USC basketball coach?

Since we've always known that Coach Dixon was staying put at Pitt and will be here for a long, long time, probably until he retires, all I can say is good luck in your search for a new coach. There are some good ones out there who might be interested in USC. Maybe a good, young assistant in a quality program who wants to move into head coaching.
