Picks for the first Final Four

Picks for the first Final Four

I am picking for no other reason than great QB play usually translates into a BCS bowl game and I can see no reason for that to change in the new format.  Note, not a single SEC team is listed here. If I were to pick a SEC team, it would probably be Auburn. I don't see this as being Alabama's year. Here's my picks in no particular order.

Baylor
Oregon
Ohio St
Florida St.

What are your picks?

Re: Picks for the first Final Four

I can see that Priester except for Oregon, I may be crazy but I can see them getting beat 3, maybe 4 times. I think Michigan State takes them, they play at WSU shortly after MSU, and the old Buggars could actually be alright this year. They also have to play at UCLA, Utah and the Civil War in Corvallis.

When they lost Addison, I think that's going to be tough for them. Their QB's a stud but sooner or later he's gonna throw the ball and somebody's got to catch it.

I think USC has a better chance if you can get past UCLA.

Sarkisian's offense could be lights out when they get the system down. At Washington, Wilcox improved the defense but he was a little too passive at times for my taste, but with the plethora of talent at USC that may change. He may go more man. So who knows, but I won't be surprised at all if USC wins the South.

If they win the South and the Championship game, they may take that spot.

This should be a 25 bonus question to start the season  for TGWTG just saying.

It's a brave new world in college football. I'd be surprised if the SEC teams dominate in this new format. In fact, Nat. Championships should be spread more equally with the top 4 conferences.

Re: Picks for the first Final Four

I notice a lot of people have Ohio State.  Aren't they replacing most of their OLine?  I remember Dan saying something about that in a Podcast.

I have:
Florida State - Good OL and great QB.  Alot of talent on D.
Oklahoma - most talent in a relatively weak conference.  Good young QB.
Michigan State - Great D wins.
USC - I'm not sure if this is a homer pick.  But I love our team and their enthusiasm, I feel our schedule sets up nicely for a run.

Others:
Alabama - I don't like their QB situation.  Replacing a lot of talent.  We have seen that 5 stars don't always equate to great teams.  However, their schedule is very favorable.
Baylor - Dangerous and explosive, just don't see them running the table and I think they need to be undefeated to get in.
Oregon - Poster said it before.  No WR's.  Mariota can't do it all.
Ohio State - 4 OLine gone and most efficient RB in the country.
LSU - Very young to run the table
South Carolina - brutal schedule
Auburn - different being the hunted.  I think they lose a couple this year.

I am not sure I understand you.  The SEC since 1992 (the year the SEC first expanded) has played in the NC game 13 times, with a 11 and 2 record..... and only once did two SEC teams play each other.....

Given that there was only two slots during the BCS era (less chance of an SEC team making the NC game) and now there are 4 slots with an even greater chance of an SEC team making the NC game, how will it be different?

cool

Re: Picks for the first Final Four

Florida St this their last best shot
ucla again their last best shot
Alabama just to much talent all around with great coaching
MSU great defense great coaching
The only caveat is if Oregon can replace a whole lot of talent that is no longer there, I don't see it happening

Not to offend anyone, but what he's saying with the type of schedule you play, 7-8 Home games, Jackson State, Outer Mongolia and Sisters of the Poor, in which you play 5 of those, we just feel you don't get beat up like USC does by playing 9 conference games and 3 OOC games, ie  ND, Auburn, Bla, Bla, Bla.  Don't get me wrong, I think Bama is great, but I wonder how they would have held up physically, if you played 9 Conference Games and Top Tier OCC? You do get my point?  Now, don't come back at me with we play in the SEC, we all know their is about 3-4 very good teams and the rest is not so good.  Missouri and Tex A&M were middle of the road until they joined you guys, and everyone struggled with them.   That was our Litmus test.  Again, I'm not taking anything away from Bama.

Re: Picks for the first Final Four

My fear is that politics from the committee will try to instill a form of socialism in the selections resulting in omissions for some deserving teams from the same conference. It should be about determining the best team in the land period, even if that means multiple teams from the same conference. This would most likely affect conferences with a conf championship game like the PAC, b10 & sec.
