Coach Peterson

Posted: 07/06/2014 10:35 AM

Coach Peterson

I was talking to our Clubs(Golf Course) new GM yesterday and he is a Boise State Alum and an avid Football Fan.  This GM kind of reminded me of our Rik and Flash put together.  He told me that Washington screwed up by hiring Peterson, they should have thrown the money at Bryan Harsin.  He said that Boise was real lucky to retain him as Head Coach, he was the architect for their offense(that Peterson took the credit) and was their top recruiter.  Boise State says that they will only get better and Washington is in for a long ride.  Jesus, I can't wait for this season to start. rofl.gif

Re: Coach Peterson

oldmanjay66---During the coaching search I was strongly urging that USC decline to hire Peterson.  Reason his record reflects his abilities in  the Mountain West Conference and not his expected abilities in the stacked PAC12.  My guess for his 2014 record was 4-5 loses.

I also wanted USC to pass on Sumlin, Franklin and a few others that were mentioned by many.  Although Sark was not my first choice I'am OK with him and expect him to post a better 2014 record then any coach mentioned in the running for the USC job.  My choice was John Gruden or sentimental favorite CEO.  Fisher was never really a likely choice either as he will remain in the NFL.

Actually Sark's first 3 years will likely exceed any of those college coaches mentioned.  I'm looking at USC with only 2 loses at maximum in 2014 with a decent shot with some luck on injuries of doing better.  I'm picking USC to go to the CCG this year which means of course that we beat UCLA.

In the CCG we likely face Stanford who we will beat for the second time this year.  The other possibility would be Oregon who we also stand a good chance of beating with our strong defense and effective up tempo offense.  Oregon would probably be a tougher match for us then Stanford.  I'm picking our defense to finish in the top 10 nationally and most likely the top 5.

A possible stumbling block for us would be Arizona who is solid and we play them in their stadium, if we aren't up for this game we may have trouble.  My thought is USC is carrying a big chip on its shoulder due to the 3 years or so of sanctions and disrespect from the media and others.  They have something to prove and are up to the task.  FIGHT ON USC!

Re: Coach Peterson

If no losses @Stanford and @UCLA---- ??

Then who are you expecting the 2 losses from?

Might as well plug the Trojans into the National Championship.

Yeah, and Donk fans said the same about Hawkins; Petersen was the genius behind his success.

Guess what, they said about Dirk Koetter?

That's right, Hawkins was the genius then....

Blah, blah, blah.

Add me to this list Chev.  In fact, I was on record numerous times here on this board.

Re: Coach Peterson

Just Arizona as a possible loss I think maybe the whole schedule can be a problem. Lets look see FSU a likely win as long as we don't have a swelled head after last years beat down.Utah does anyone think this is a gimme? ASU another gimme?,Stanford, ucla, Colorado a likely gimme although they will be somewhat betterhow about OCU and WSU likely wins how about OOC games BC a likely win how about the fightin leprechauns think that will be a gimme, new coaching staff new game plan I am not so sure about the NCG let alone a trip to the CCG or the Pac-12 CG.

Re: Coach Peterson

Lets see he interviewed at SC. Turn down an offer from Ruinland the year before. Then he takes the UW job, That sounds about right. So lets see if he can break that jinx that has followed  his predecessor's.

Re: Coach Peterson

Frankly I hope Peterson does well.  I also was hoping SC would not offer/hire him.  I think from playing off Broadway to playing Broadway is too big a jump for Peterson.  He will have pressure to produce at UW but no where near the pressure he would have had coming to USC.

This is not uncommon. Head coaches always get the credit for the success or failure of the team, even if it is not completely deserved. Time will tell if Peterson was a good or bad hire. In Peterson's defense, he brought in Harsin and all head coaches are only as good as the staff they build around them. Don't forget,  Pete Carroll's USC teams began to falter once some of his staff had moved on and Carroll promoted guys that were not yet ready.

I beg to differ. Peterson will have tons of pressure on him to continue to build on the trend set by Sark and his staff. Washington is a program with a history of success and the administration, alumni and fans are getting very impatient and want that success back. Peterson will have 3 years (no more) to make his team successful. No different that the situation for Sark at USC.  If Washington should take a step backward this year, Peterson's bum will begin to feel the heat.

Re: Coach Peterson

Not sure what trend you are referring to (4-5 conf 1st yr and then flatlined at 5-4 for rest?) but yes, Petersen will need to improve on what Sark did, I think that much is clear. Don't know that a step backward is automatic hot seat next year but that depends on how far backwards. Reviews are positive from at least some of the players. Say that it's no longer like the team is being run by a bunch of frat boys.

Not surprised a BSU fan would say that. All three teams have got the rose colored glasses on will be interesting to see what reality will be. Season can't come soon enough.

So you think that the former head coach Washington, now of USC (one of the top 5 college coaching jobs in America) is simply a 'frat boy'? I personally think you will be surprised how well Sark does at USC.  This WILL NOT be Kiffin part deux.
