Why should a redneck bother?

Past history indicates she'll run into it herself.   Probably while putting on her makeup.

YBD she usually gets a little help when crashing. She's got a target on her back. Or she may be texting while driving.

RE: Way to go Danica

NASCAR question. I am unfamiliar with it but respect it. Aren't there two poles--the inside and outside pole? Which one provides more of an advantage?

I mean, it sounds like an initial tactical advantage, but the race is long and that advantage can disappear due to the amount of racers that can overcome you.

OK so there are two poles and she was one of the two. Thanks! I honesty didn't know that. I know that race car drivers are sometimes misunderstood and there are people that do not consider it a sport, but from what I've read the drivers themselves have to be athletes! thanks!

The problem is, is no matter how you write it, Danica Patrick+pole can generate some interesting phrases of speech :) Even if there is no intent behind it.

Also, the comments below are from 4 different users:

Interesting comments here 37179. they are below. some feel that she got lucky due to a tailwind and a better car than others.

1)
No conspiracy, her CAR was the best car.. The driver does not do much at Daytona and Talladega.. It is a speed track. The best car usually gets the pole. Add in the winds at the track today, some drivers got a bad head wind going down the back stretch, and others did not.

2)
It's about the cars in NASCAR nearly ALL the time. In a class of racing where the formula is so tight that passes happen multiple times on a single lap - driving skill isn't at a premium. The sport attracts talent ONLY because of the money - take that away, and drivers will flock to more enjoyable, challenging forms of the sport.

3)
If she can get the pole at an intermediate track, then you can say something.

4)
Considering Daytona and Talladega are "wide open" tracks, it doesn't take much talent on the driver to get a pole or win here... It all comes down to the speed the car has, as they don't use the brake and never let off..

I think they were saying the layout of the intermediate track is harder to drive, vs. Daytona...I am still learning about the sport.

I think Daytona is a hard track but I have read it is flat and wide.

then it sounds like the others are talking out their ass and daytona is the fastest. I will ask, why does Daytona have a "restrictor plate" restriction other tracks do not?

RE: Way to go Danica

The link didn't work for me so I'm going by what you posted.

I would disagree with the blogger who wrote that. Here's why and some f them are questions.

Why is so rare that drivers from open wheel and other disciplines find it so hard to compete in NASCAR? There has been only a couple that have been able to switch and win. Tony Stewart is one of them.

The driver does quite a bit regardless even if it's a a so "Called Speed Track". There is a lot more to it than just making those left hand turns. The driver has to control the car going at times over 200 mph and it's not just pointing the steering wheel. Another thing this year the cars are the new Gen5 and the aerodynamics are quite a bit different. By the way those speed tracks for those of that know and anyone who follows NASCAR should know this, those tracks are called restrictor plate tracks because the cars before fuel injection had a restrictor plate between the carb and the intake manifold, but now they have that plate between the air intake and the manifold. This is to keep the speeds down.

It's not all about the cars believe me. Who ever wrote that doesn't know that much about NASCAR. NASCAR works works very hard now to put it in the drivers hand. Sure in the past it was more the cars than the drivers but not the last couple of years and surely not this year. Even when it more the cars the driver still has to control the car. I don't think that the blogger understands NASCAR very well. Passing cars going close over 200 mph doesn't take skill? Think about that for a second they driving wheel to wheel within inches of each other and no skill is needed? All it takes is slight misjudgment of less than inch while going around 200 mph causes wrecks and sometimes those wrecks collect a lot of cars because they are running so close to each other. There have been times when the exhaust which exits on the left side of the car has cut down tires on other cars, now that is racing close. How about drafting or bump drafting driving right on the rear of the car in front. Think about it.

The sport attracts talent ONLY because of the money - take that away, and drivers will flock to more enjoyable, challenging forms of the sport.

I call BS on that too. Most of those drivers grew up wanting to to drive in NASCAR and in what is considered the best and most competitive motor sport around. It's a challenge to those that grew up in different disciplines. Like I stated before not to many drivers have been able to make the switch. Some have tried and completely failed and some have tried and stayed in NASCAR while being some what competitive but not really doing all that well. Then there a few who have made the switch and have won including wining the Cup Championship(Tony Stewart). Tony Stewart won championships in other disciplines BTW. If money was the only or the most important motivating factor then how come there isn't a rush for drivers from other disciplines come over to NASCAR?

Another thing I didn't read and it might have been in that article, is how much of a team sport it is. Pit crews are being made up of athletes now from college that weren't quite good enough to make the pros. NASCAR teams actually do tryouts or or something like pro days to recruit college athletes. There is team work when it comes to pit stops, which is one of favorite parts of NASCAR. The pit crews are in training year around more or less. The drivers for the most part train most of the year too. Then there is the communication between the driver and the crew chief and the driver and spotters. The pit crews also make adjustments to cars as well as changing tires and putting the fuel in and all in less than 14 seconds for the most part. There is one jack man, two tire changers, two tire carers and one gas man. So not only does one them have to do their regular job on the stops but when changes are need they have to that.

The last paragraph is so wrong I won't even address that. Who ever wrote that article looks to me like he has an agenda that he's trying to push.

RE: Way to go Danica

To keep the speed down. If not for the restrictor plates those cars would go well over 200 mph. Those drivers crew chiefs push the limit as it is and going over 200 mph would make it way to dangerous especially if there was a crash going that fast.

If you want to learn about the sport then try going to NASCAR.com and not blogging sites. Thye have quite a bit of information including track lay outs. Also speed.com is another place to go. Speed.com covers all motor sports too.
