Oberlin/Amherst
I will be competing in the Ohio Police and Fires games this spring, which are being hosted by Oberlin PD. The venue for the lifting sports is Amherst High School. How far is that from Oberlin? Easy drive? Which is a good hotel to stay at to be close to the HS on meet day? The "command post" for the event is at the Oberlin Inn, which means that is where the party is. Cop parties tend to be fun. Are there any other good places to hang out up there? I appreciate any advice...Jeff

Re: Oberlin/Amherst
Oberlin is home to a very liberal college. I recommend blasting thru town in a lifted diesel truck playing thrash metal at an unbearable volume. They are very tolerant. Piss on their leg to check out the nonviolence. It's amazing.

Re: Oberlin/Amherst
Amherst is 10 minutes north of Oberlin. As far as hotels go I'd stay at the Oberlin Inn if I were you. There are a couple waterpark hotel / resorts if you are bringing children in Sandusky about 30 minutes west. As far as hang out places boy in that area I would say Cleveland 30 minutes east would be your best bet. Oberlin is a very small town with a very liberal arts college. The Oberlin Inn is right across the street from the newly renvated Apollo Movie Theatre which Rhea Pearlman and Danny DeVito spearheaded as their child went or possibly still goes to Oberlin. If you have never been and have the time I would highly reccommend the Lake Erie Islands. Its about an hour and a ferry ride from Oberlin and Amherst. Prestis has excellent Italian food in Oberlin.

Re: Oberlin/Amherst
Not really man bars in Oberlin. But if many are staying at the Oberlin Inn, a good time can be had there. The Feve is an option. If it were in spring or summer a lot more outdoor fun can be had in Oberlin. Have seen many a great outdoor concert in Tappan Square.
Oberlin to Amherst Steele high school is an easy drive. Should be 15-20 min. Lots of bars in Amherst downtown area, but obviously not close to where you're staying.
And yes Oberlin College makes the town a quite liberal. Not uncommon to see 2 gals or 2 guys making out in the square on a sunny day. Interesting place it is.

Re: Oberlin/Amherst
Thanks, guys. Sounds like Oberlin is a good bit like Antioch College which is near where I live.
