Can't believe no one mentioned the A-Team. I was ready to kick butt myself when that tune ended.

Can't believe that you stated that without looking at one page of posts.

My bad, reading the forum on an iPhone during family movie night can be difficult sometimes.

RE: Best TV theme songs

I think they all belonged to the 70's and 80's. From Gilligan's Island, Addams Family, Munsters, Andy Griffith to Sanford and Son, All in the Family, Good Times and Welcome Back Kotter. The "golden age" of t.v. songs, if such a thing exists.

One Life to Live is by Dave Grusin, who did St. Elsewhere. They sound the same. I don't care for either show, but I LOVE their theme songs.

St. Elswhere, from '82. This version is GRP '85 at the Record Plant.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgjWTnAEEPw
One Life to Live theme. Listen to the end for "new NFL touchdown passing leader Dan Marino." Late '84 with the modern theme. Later version had Peabo Bryson. I like it without it.

Both themes are either in Dm or F

I always liked the opening theme to Crime Story.

More for the show than the theme because it was such a great series.

Re: Best TV theme songs

Ah c'mon, make this more challenging by combining best TV theme songs with best opening visuals, graphics, videos that accompanied the songs. The songs + the graphics are what grabbed your attention.

Early nominees:

The Addams Family (original)
Mission Impossible
Bonanza
Batman (original)
Sesame Street
Green Acres
Andy Griffith Show
Beverly Hillbillies
Get Smart (original)
Peter Gunn
Hawaii Five-O (original)

That would have been my choice as well.

Also, I like the theme song to True Blood.

I always turn to the sports pages first, which records people's accomplishments. The front page has nothing but man's failures. ~ Earl Warren
