Ah, the Ravens Roost. That visitors locker room in that place was the size of a large broom closet.

The worst Stadium I ever played in. By far.
I hated that place.
Yeah, it was a complete dump. But it was my favorite road stadium of all the places I went to in two years of HS ball. It had character.

Now, Stow's stadium after they built their new HS in the late '80s... that place was awful. It was like playing in the Everglades. If it even clouded up that place turned into a swamp.

My brother in law coached at Stow for years.  I have broken his balls about that joint many times.

before they re sodded Gilnastis Stadium in Streetsboro last year, that was the worst field in all of the PTC.
when my son was in 8th grade, they played Ravenna last game of the 2011 season.
It poured all day. at 4 oclock you couldn't see their cleats. It was a embarrasment.

But back to Ravenna they have had some ballers...Paul Campbell..Kris Jones..Ramone and Damone Wagner...Teddy Bryant..Phil Starks..Marcus Sanders..Geechy... Sonny Ray
best player I ever saw for Ravenna was Lamonte Nelms

Canal Fulton Northwest

Wide Receiver. I was not a starter but played a good role basically a 3rd down possesion receiever.  Still fortunate to have one of the highest catching percentages in school history

I coached some of those kids in pee wee.  Everyone of those except Cochise Campbell came long after I graduated.  My junior year had two all state players, DE Greg Matthews (NC StateU) and QB Greg Powell (Michigan), OLB Todd Finch had a ride to Kent as did our kicker, Crazy Joe LaCivita.  One of the best players ever at Ravenna was Louis King.  He was an amazing athlete but about 99 cents short of a dollar.

I worked as a part time janitor in my school. I'd sometimes see math problems on the blackboards and just solve them. My best friend was Matt Damon..

But seriously, I find it interesting how many guys didn't play football but are crazy Browns fans. Good for you.

Re: Where'd you go to high school? What sports did you play?

Went to high school at a tiny school just SW of Steubenville in the OVAC.  I think we graduated about 70 kids each year.

Didn't have a track or a track team or I would have done that.  Would have run the 220 and 440 most likely.  So I played some baseball, up until my senior year.  Just wasn't that good at it.

Played football freshman, junior and senior years.  Had health issues my soph year.

Was fast, but couldn't tackle in the open field.  Hated those damn quick scatbacks.  Still started at monster (basically SS) junior year, CB senior year.  Also, get this, started at center both junior and senior years.  Also happened to be one of the stronger kids on the team so I had to fill that role.  Was one of the "headhunters" on kickoffs and punts.  Yeah, I was exhausted after games.  Lost about 15 pounds over the course of the season.  Many of us had to play both ways and special teams.

Hated my head coach.  He was an idiot both in the way he treated us and in x's and o's.  Water deprivation and throwing up happened a lot in the 90 degree heat of August practices.  Built character, but we're lucky no kid died.  Had some buddies join the military afterwards, including marines.  They said that the physical aspect of their training was nothing compared to our football practices.

My freshman year we played this horrible defense called a 7-Diamond.  7 guys up on the line, one MLB, 1/3 zone in the secondary.  Nose on center, 2 down lineman in guard/tackle gaps, 2 DT on TE's (yes, TE's), 2 DE outside TE's.  Huge pressure on the MLB.

Went to college in Fort Wayne....St Francis College on Spring Street. When I was there Northrop was a huge basketball powerhouse. Are they still?

In the end our only regrets are the chances we never took.

Cleveland South and Lorain Southview - seriously.  It drove Don Cameron nuts.

The program was taped on the day OJ broke Jim Brown's single season rushing record.  So it was bitter sweet.

Shelby High School, north of Mansfield.

Played WR for a team that threw maybe 10 passes a year...also was the punter and kicker.

Track in the springtime.  Hurdles (120 highs and 180 lows...which is showing my age) and high jump.

I believe they have a kid who will be playing at Purdue next year. Not sure if they are currently ranked.

Now that's possible Indy, but if you stole mine I owe you a beer and a big thank you. I married a Bellbrook girl but both my kids went to the new and improved Kettering Fairmont. I still can't figure out how a school of 3200 kids can't put a winning football team on the field since like EVER!! You'd think they might luck into a decent team even if it's by accident....Oh wait, I'm a Browns fan so I guess I can. banghead

We played Parma, VF, Brush, Shaker, Garfield, Cleveland Hts, Shaw, Lakewood, maybe Euclid. Some of the away games were a flipping world tour, especially for the more sheltered, suburban, west side boys.

At Cleve Hts, someone shot an arrow onto the playing field that landed a few feet from our huddle. And at Shaw, we played an empty stadium. I can't remember if there was some racial tension going on, or if they were afraid the lambs of Parma would be eaten alive if they even ventured into the 'hood. On the field, all the Shaw players were cool, and at the end of the game, we all walked off together.

Did you go to high school in the 1820's?

An ARROW??  I went to Heights (it's not referred to as "Cleveland Heights"), and can attest that there is no way that there has been a working archery set in that building since at least the mid '80s.  First of all, would you let any Heights kids have access to any sort of weapon?  Of course not.

Was it on fire?  Maybe a neighborhood kid had just watched Braveheart and launched it from a couple blocks away.

Or...it just occurred to me, that a bow and arrow could pass right through the metal detectors...maybe it was a hit?
