Kevin Love Watch

Posted: 7/11/2014 2:05 PM

Kevin Love Watch

Figured this needed it's own thread... Looks like the initial offer is Waiters, Bennett, and a first round pick.

Say we pull this off, how can we sign love to a long extension?  Where are we getting the cap room?

Luxury tax here we come.

Re: Kevin Love Watch

I don't believe he will be able to sign an extension until January so he will be our guy and we can go above the cap to sign him.

Dan will play unlike Arison.

Apparently Bron has just recently talked to Mike Miller too.

That's the ideal deal, because Bennett plays Love's position, and Waiters plays Wiggins's position. They're going to have to toss in at least one extra first rounder, though. And I still think Minnesota is going to insist on Wiggins.

I'm not sure a trade happens now, though. It might behoove both sides to wait and see  what happens, especially since LeBron was willing to commit without Love being delivered. if Bennett develops, maybe Minnesota will see him as a fair return for Love; or if Wiggins is an out-of-the-box success, it might argue against the Cavs even needing another star.

Minnesota probably wants a 7 for 1 (5 players, 2 1st rounders) like they got for KG in 2007.  Not gonna happen.

Read Wolves fans saying Flip Saunders is saying no way this happens without Wiggins.
These were just Minnesota fans posting on ESPN stating Flip was saying this so who knows if it is true.

Every day that goes by the KLove is still with Minnesota, his asking price should go down.  They know he will not sign with them next year.  They cannot afford to let him walk.  I can see the Cavs sweetening the offer somewhat, but without Wiggins.  I'm guessing LeBron wants Wiggins to stay.  A good wing player that can defend.

This at least makes sense, but where are you getting this info from?

The outlet pass compilation is fantastic.  His defense is still a concern, but I feel miles better about it we don't ruin our perimiter defense to acquire him.

Re: Kevin Love Watch

The Cavs told Wiggins people that he will not be traded.

For whatever that means.  I hope they can do the trade without including Wiggins.

Posted in another thread.  @espn was reporting it.  I think Broussard.

AA:

They can insist all they want, but that's not happening.  Or at least it shouldn't.

I get the Love fit and all, but the opening bid is plenty generous.  If they insist upon more, then it's a trade best not made.  And it's not like the Cavs will have any intimidating presence underneath.  They could use one as much as an extra trey shooter.

One thing I'd love to see is Varejao and Love concenrating on the boards and allowing James, Irving and Wiggins to go Showtime.  The Cavs have historically had a lousy set offense resulting in too many contested jumpers, or LelBron or Irving dribbling with four seconds on the clock.  They have to pile up easy points in transition.

PWS:

I'm not sure a trade happens now, though. It might behoove both sides to wait and see  what happens, especially since LeBron was willing to commit without Love being delivered. if Bennett develops, maybe Minnesota will see him as a fair return for Love;

AA:

If Bennett develops, to hell with Love.  Keep Bennett,.   It's not out of the realm of possibility that the first pick in any draft  can't be a star, and Bennett had little flashes of it last year.

Love puts up big numbers more than impact.  It's funny to me how people see the present team as nowhere near being in contention, but are virtual favorites if they pick up Love.

Would I like to have him?  Sure.  Am I willing to throw more assets than what they've offered to Minny?  No.

And it seems that LeBron is not adverse to sacrificing one year in developement to put the club in position to be a serious contender.

Re: Kevin Love Watch

It really just depends what other offers they have for him, and what he'll tell other teams about resigning if they trade for him.  A number of teams want him, so if he isn't only willing to re-sign with Cleveland than we'll need to be better than the other offers.

Re: Kevin Love Watch

Here's hoping Bennett kicks ass in the summer league, and the FO decides to keep him and see if he develops into a force.  And if Wiggins looks great tonight in his summer league debut, Cavs fans will strongly resist any trade for Love with Wiggins in it.  I think a lot of people will be watching.

spend the money wisely.

The nets are paying a ridiculous amount in luxury tax and what did that get them.  They have to be sure that trading for Love is worth giving up Wiggins, Waiters,Bennett and first round  picks.

Why trade?

He's a free agent next year. Keep the core and get him next year.

The clowns on espn were saying Wiggins,Waiters,Bennett and a 1st.

Golden State wouldn`t do a Klay Thompson,David Lee and a 1st for Love AND Kevin Martin.
I just compared Thompson to Waiters and they are almost exact.Lee is old and expensive and their pick I would imagine would be pretty late so someone explain to me how these are anywhere equal.

Re: Kevin Love Watch

Does anyone else agree with me that Gasol fits the Cavaliers roster better?

Frontcourt
PF-Tristan Thompson, Andy Varejao
C- Pau Gasol, Brendan Hayward

or
PF Kevin Love, Andy Varejao
C- Bottom of the barrell free agent or Brendan Hayward.

I love Love but this team is deep as hell if we stand pat and grow.

Waiters & Bennett off bench ???

Direct the resources to get a 5 that defends the rim.

I have a feeling we might move too rashly here

This.  Now that LeBron is in, Cavs have even more leverage.  They can make a trade under their best terms.  If other teams want too much - move on and play with what you already have.
