Detroit Pistons @ Cleveland Cavaliers-12-23-13-Game Thread

I'm always hearing voices on the street. I want to shout but I can hardly speak. Rolling Stones-1972. Should be an interesting game with Drummond going up against Bynum. Drummond  is slowly becoming a double double guy.

Re: Detroit Pistons @ Cleveland Cavaliers-12-23-13-Game Thread

Pistons lost their last two games to Charlotte and Houston but before that they beat Brooklyn, Indy (away) and Boston (away) and lost in OT to New Orleans and Portland. They had a streak where they played some good basketball until their last two games.

Dwight Howard got 39 points on Drummond the other night. The kid got schooled. Let's see what Bynum can do against him.

The Pistons lead the NBA in points in the paint with 51.5 per game. They got 62 against Houston despite the presence of Howard. The Cavs need to pack the paint tonight or they'll get blown out.

The Pistons biggest weakness is 3-point shooting percentage, where they're 31st. They're good at forcing turnovers, ranking 4th, so the Cavs need to take care of the ball and defend the paint.

Hope Waiters can play.

Kyrie should have a big night facing Jennings.

Thompson has looked horrid the past few games. He'll have to be nosy to slow down Monroe (and Smith, if they match up).

Waiters will not play again tonight which makes this his 3rd missed game in a row.

Misses the band moderately less.

We really have to rebound tonight. That three big lineup that Detroit runs has potential to get a lot of offensive boards. Hopefully our 3 guard lineup can create enough of a mismatch to give us an edge.

Frustrating every time Bennett gets the ball with an open shot for 2, only to take a step (or two) back to try to shoot a 3 and thus miss. I wish Brown would immediately call a timeout, slap him, then let play resume.

Maybe he has taken the advanced metrics too far, 3 pointers are considered better shots than long 2s.

How many #$@%@# missed offensive tip shots can a team have?!  Geezus!  And if Clark is going to miss three pointers like the way he is missing, I would be able to do that for a LOT less!

In several of the cases, he could've taken a step or two forward w/ the dribble, and taken a better shot in rhythm.

The defense hasn't been all that good over the last several weeks as they have been giving up a lot of points. We are seeing the effects when the offense goes stale too.

Team in general has been pretty bad overall without Waiters...I am surprised it seems like he has that much of an impact.

Exactly... They are a mess without Dion.

Yes, it is obvious this team misses Waiters. I didn't think his being out would hurt so much but offensively they're so limited. If Bynum isn't scoring and/or CJ then without Waiters it's likely an L.

Re: Detroit Pistons @ Cleveland Cavaliers-12-23-13-Game Thread

Cavaliers had 9 turnovers in the first quarter + 30 seconds.

Cavs are 6/21 from 3 pt land.  It was 3/15 at one point in the second quarter

Andy saved the Cavs at least 4 possessions where he or the Cavs did not get a rebound off a miss.  His hustle caused Detroit to lose the ball out of bounds due to Andy's efforts

Gee started the game with a 3 pt shot and dunk and then disappeared...

It'd be nice to see Karasev play if the Cavs don't cut into the lead soon.

Is it my imagination or does this team really seem to suck without Dion playing well?

Austin Carr is right when he said that this team seems to have the "oh well..." attitude when they are getting manhandled. We see spurts where they try to execute something, only to be followed by spurts where they are too laid back and careless. Makes me think they lack a sense of urgency at times and are soft.  They lack that "dawg" in them.

Maybe the Cavs should consider Tyler Zeller Mr 4th quarter.  He scored 13 points in the last frame.  Zeller also moved well without the ball and got some scoring chances.

Bennett needs regular PT because it seemed like he had more confidence playing with the 2B and 3rd stringers in garbage time.

He had a couple of aggressive dunks/dunk attempts, and a nice shot from inside 10 feet.  He also grabbed some defensive boards in traffic.

I think he'd benefit from playing in the NBADL and not having to worry about living up to Brown's expectations to get some PT

Karasev seems to pass the ball effortlessly most of the time.

I thought it was more exciting watching Bennett, Zeller, Karasev and Felix C play than watching the first 3 quarters of the game.

We need to shake up something. Even when Dion was playing our D was a mess, we just made up for it with scoring. With him out nobody picks up his 15+ PPG scoring.

Bynum needs to be only shooting little hooks and dunks and if he seems off then just get Zeller in. Some combo of Felix, Bennet and Karasev has to be better then Gee and Miles. Our starting wings are not even rotation level players on most teams. Just frustrating overall to watch.

Normally I would think that what you saw from Bennett, Zeller, Karasev and Felix is fools gold because it was a blow-out but looking at the minutes break-down of  Detroit and how they only went 10 deep, at minimum they played against primarily 2nd stringers and some starters (considering Drummond, Smith, Monroe and Jennings all went over 30 minutes)

Here's the box score from the game, some interesting stats. I know it's just one game, but Zeller looked great I feel better now if we trade Andy, I know it's just one game.

If you could somehow get the same value for Bynum as you can for AV, who would you trade?  I honestly think I would trade Bynum, AV just is more versatile and the offense seems to run smoother without Bynum.  I do see the value of him when he gets going, but the effort it takes to do that seems to stall the rest of the team.

I agree. I unfortunately went to the game and it was a large, almost sellout crowd that mostly sat on their hands. I imagine Gilbert is quite upset.

The first team was unwatchable. If the first team is not playing defense, then why play them? Why bench only Dion when he was not playing defense?

At least CJ came out for a half hour or more after the game to shoot shots. The whole team should have been out there afterwards.

Bennett looks far better, but why is he not getting minutes, especially when the starters were sucking? Why not play Zeller when Bynum can't but a shot.

I think Brown favors his vets to a fault. Not only do they have a sense of entitlement without consequence, but it is slowing the development of our young players, who may ultimately be much better than what is currently starting.

As in the past, the bar is super low for our young players. It's not going to be hard for any of them to earn more playtime when they're ready to take it.
