Top 50 Prospects of 2013

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/rob-rang/1890878 1/early-look-at-2013-top-50-prospects

Looks like an excellent class to fill 2 of our biggest remaining holes in DE and WR

1. David Amerson - CB
2. Terrence Williams - WR

Sounds good to me...

Re: Top 50 Prospects of 2013

I want to see 7-9 this season so I have us picking 12.  Strong looking group of DEs, but unless our WRs sort themselves out to be a solid group under Weeden.  I have to start there.

12 - WR Keenan Allen*, California - Good size, productive, and elusive threat after the catch.  I'd like to see him get his TD total up this year.

44 - S Tony Jefferson*, Oklahoma - Maybe it's just me, but he seems like a steal here.  Physical tackler, pass rush ability, tracks the ball well, but needs to get more consistent, and he's good in run support.  A little undersized, but tell that to Troy Polamalu.

It was interesting that there were four to five QBs in this top 50.  Now some may stay in school and other QBs might surprise during the actual season.

It seems the pass happy college game is providing a good number of starting quarterback candidates to the NFL every year.

Sucks that he's got a name that sounds like a punter or placekicker.

Just like "Garo Yepremian" probably wouldn't strike fear in the hearts of opposing QBs.

As much as people don't like it, guys that don't have "wow" physical tools like Mr. Brugler points out, generally don't go in the top 5.

Whereas a guy like CB David Amerson definitely has every tool to go No. 1 overall, yet he's ranked 18th.

My good God, look at all the DEs on that list! I heard it was going to be a good year, but wow! Nice job by Heckert hedging us this season at RDE.

Yeah, Amerson is at the top of my Browns board right now.

And Hankins is too high, based on what he's done so far. I'm not saying he won't get to that level because it's all there for him, especially now that Urb's got him in shape.

But this is a top 50 projection, so it's not an unreasonable guess as to where he may end up.

He's definitely not better than Star at what each do at this point.

In fact, I think Hankins' athleticism is being overplayed to a degree. I've watched multiple OSU games the last month or so. He does have tremendous initial quickness that allows him to reestablish the LOS every snap. But his lateral movement is lacking, and he was really out of place playing DE at points last year.

He won't be sloppy fat this year, so that might make a very big difference in his ability to sustain pursuit. But after his first two years I agree 100%. #3 is just too big of a projection for me at this time.

Re: Top 50 Prospects of 2013

DE is definitely our #1 priority at this point...  It's weird, it's like Heckert looks ahead when most people are still focused on what happened two years ago.  Wouldn't be surprised if the fact that we have the 3rd best cap space going into the first year of forced spending was on purpose to grab a WR in FA from one of those teams who has been over spending, ie. PIT and KC...  DE, WR, CB, LB, LB, RG, RB, DE (not in that order)...  should sum up our draft next year...  Great thing about it, this is one of the first drafts Cleveland will have had in the last 13 years that we do not require the top 3-4 picks to start immediately; picks 1 and 2 probably, 3 and 4 perhaps, 5 thru the end depth...

I agree, 7-9 is maybe our most logically optimistic outlook for this season, making our top pick Okafor or Werner most likely, depends where things fall...
Liberty's in Solon, Maple Heights, Brunswick, Parma Heights, Vermilion, Hummmm...

Interesting article and comments; thanks to all.

As some have pointed out, we are poised to land a deluxe pass rushing DE no matter where our record is among those staying within the realm of science-fiction.

I agree that TH has that kind of move penciled in as plan A.

When I went to the link, Pat Kirwan's 6/20 article had the McCoy issue as his #1 (of 10) topics.  He listed teams that should be calling us.  I'll start a thread on that in OBR Football if not already there.

Re: Top 50 Prospects of 2013

If the Browns draft a corner in round one, they should resign from the NFL. WR and RDE pass rusher are glaring. We have a #1 corner in Haden and nobody doubles up at that position to win. Patterson is better than about 20 "second best corners," including all of the perennial contenders. By next year, same might be true of Skrine.

Might be a good position to spend some of that f/a bread, though. Not a bank-buster but a solid fourth guy to go with Haden, Patterson, and Skrine. Although Dockery has looked really good, too.

You mean the "we should have our NFL team license revoked if we don't take Tannehill at #4 because McShay and Mayock said we have to"  echo?

Such a shame.
