SFChronicle - Good read about RB Robert Turbin

Robert Turbin sees NFL as means to help at home

Eric Branch

Friday, March 9, 2012

As a child, Fremont's Robert Turbin could do nothing to help his sister Trina, who had multiple sclerosis and died at 21.

And beyond providing basic care, he's been powerless to improve the circumstances of his sister Tiffany, 32, who was born with a severe form of cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair. She is unable to speak and is paralyzed from the neck down.

In recent months, though, the former Utah State running back and soon-to-be NFL draft pick had dreamed of finally having the means to help his only other full sibling, his older brother, Lonnie.

I can't find a picture, but was I the only one while watching Combine coverage who thought to himself, "Wow, Turbin's right arm is drastically bigger than his left."???

Can't stop talking football: Browns, NFL, college, even some high school @brentsobleski

Have liked what I have read and seen on Turbin.  Seems like the kind of back other teams always find in rounds 4 or 5 at rb that end up having some very good years.  One of the Browns two 4th's spent on Turbin would be a great pick IMO.

Sleeper Running Back

I've been looking at Utah State running back Robert Turbin and really like what I see.  He's a guy that the Browns could get in the third round area that could really make an impact.  According to CBS Sportsline Turbin is 5'9.5
222 pound back.  He's not a blazer, but they have him at a 4.5.  He's a violent runner that can also make guys miss.  I think he's not getting as much play because he's from a smaller school.  Has anyone out there seen much from him?  Thoughts?

He's been getting some convo in here. Sounds good to me.

I like him, a lot. Forget trading a pick for Ben Tate. Let's go after this guy, or someone of his caliber in the middle rounds.

Utah State's Robert Turbin and Michael Smith are two of the best value picks in the draft.

Bite your tongue.  Have been hoping the Browns could get Turbin with one of their 4th round picks.  If he keeps getting air play, it may bump him up to where we have to use a 3.

Yeah he's not really a sleeper to be honest. it was HILLARIOUS watching him run his 40 at the Combine. His arms looked so big it was RIDICULOUS!

Ha, I loved watching Turbin at Utah State. It was hilarious to see corners from the likes of New Mexico try to tackle him.

He's a personal favorite of mine, similar to Greg Little last year. I have a soft spot for super freaks.

Re: Sleeper Running Back

Living in utah, I have had the opportunity to watch Turbin quite a few times, kid is a very good RB. He is tough to bring down, has good hands catching the ball out of the backfield and can block. Only problem with him is injuries, he really had some bad luck at Utah State but he did bounce back  to have a very nice season last year.

Re: Sleeper Running Back

Ronnie Hill is one of my favorites....

San Diego State running back Ronnie Hillman is forgoing his final two years of eligibility to enter the 2012 NFL Draft. The redshirt sophomore told the San Diego Times-Union that he received feedback from the NFL Advisory Committee that he could be selected as high as the third round. "Yes I will be declaring this year," he told the paper. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Hillman is the second redshirt sophomore running back to declare for the 2012 draft, joining Miami's Lamar Miller. Hillman is the No. 9-rated running back prospect for the 2014 class by NFLDraftScout.com, and will join an increasingly loaded class at the position in April. Hillman does make the leap after two highly productive seasons. He rushed for 1,532 yards and 17 touchdowns as a redshirt freshman and 1,711 and 19 touchdowns this season. He hasn't been highly involved in the passing game, with 33 career receptions for 338 yards and two scores. He closed out his career with just 55 yards on 24 carries in San Diego State's 32-30 loss to Louisiana-Lafayette in the R+L carriers New Orleans Bowl. Along with Miller, Washington's Chris Polk has already said he's leaving, and fellow juniors Trent Richardson from Alabama and Virginia Tech's David Wilson could soon follow suit, as could Wisconsin's Montee Ball and Oregon's LaMichael James, all Top 100 prospects by NFLDraftScout.com along with seniors Doug Martin from Boise State and Isaiah Pead from Cincinnati. - NFLDraftScout.com

Ronnie Hillman signed with San Diego State as a lightly recruited prep prospect. He leaves having broken Marshall Faulk's freshman record for most rushing yards in a season (1,532) and followed that up with a 1,711 yard campaign set earned him All-American honors and broke the WAC single-season record. He rushed for over 100 yards in six games in 2011. In each of the six, he rushed for over 150. He finished the season fifth in the country with an average of 131.62 yards per game and scored 20 touchdowns.

If Hillman did not receive the fanfare one might expect for a back with his staggering production you can blame the fact some scouts never saw Hillman coming. In 2011 he finished just his second season of college football. Hillman is eligible for the draft because he is three years removed from his high school graduation due to the fact that he did not qualify academically in 2009.

Hillman wasted little time demonstrating difference-making talent once he got on the field, however, playing in all 13 and starting eight times in 2010. Defying a relatively slight frame, Hillman again started all 13 games in 2011, ranking among the national leaders with 311 carries on the season. Wisconsin's Montee Ball, by comparison, finished the year with 307 carries.

Hillman lacks the size scouts prefer but there is no denying that he shows legitimate NFL juice as an open field runner. With improved receiving and pass blocking skills Hillman could see the field early in his career. He received a third round grade from the NFL Advisory Committee and could prove quite a value if selected at that point in the draft.

RE: Sleeper Running Back

Ronnie Hillman is my irrational mancrush this year. He bounces around quite a bit, doesn't have great size, and doesn't run with a ton of strength but he has produced immensely behind a sub-par SDST offensive line. I'm pretty sure any RB would be bouncing it quite a bit if they were running behind them. Something about the kid is just very entertaining to watch and I would take a chance on his upside.

Physically he looks like he has all of the tools. He would be a really interesting pick up in the later rounds. He's sort of like a poor man's Richardson (almost identical in size and build).
