It didn't happen.  Marecic has been a disappointment and IMO, was outplayed by Vickers, Clutts and Smelley.

It was said to be the champ you had to beat the champ. Smelley may have been better at FB than Marecic but failed to whip him.  Not all that bad. Smelley may come in this year as a complete FB.  Marecic has been injured and may miss more time.  Makes little difference this year.

What is the difference maker?  Haslam will review the team. If Marecic continues to be a dud and Smelley shows promise it is one more nail.  Owen has been but half a FB. Playing 10 1/2 on 11 is not a great offensive plan. Shumur dumped Vickers for him. Heckert drafted him and imo, early. Holmgen approved all. Only one piece of the puzzle and I am wholely onboard with Nas as FB being the least significant position on offense.  Still, it is not a reason or excuse for having a dud.  It makes a difference.
SD:

When your play is such that you can be regarded as offering 10.5 players to the other teams 11 , your butt needs to have been gone .

Lets cut the **** , A FB who can't lead block pass protect or catch has no place on the roster , regardless if this position has been devalued or not .

Any one of those failing could get our QB killed , combined he's a liability which should have been upgraded  plus it gives  another deserving  kid on the practice roster  ie a linebacker or a RB or even another more talented Hybrid  /Hback FB    rather than Smelley wasting his time there when he should be starting.

It upgrades two spots , but because Heckert chooses to hide his failure on the roster, the more deserving player who can help the team sits , while the clown who should be gone takes up valuable space.

Smelley cleared the lanes for Richardson as his lead blocker , to that end his value lies on the active  roster, plus he can catch and is one more target for our QB , not Marecic saving face for Heckert because some dunce thinks this position isn't worthy to be manned properly with the best you can put in there because of some obscure stat  says FB's ain't all that important .

When Marecic whiffs on a rusher and gets Weeds killed the way he whiffs on his lead blocks ,  this entire argument to the contrary  on how unimportant is this position will be exposed as the Horsecrap position it really is.
.

Jeeeze where is Marie Antoinette when you need her.

Take a page from Pete Carroll ( who I loathe btw ), who spent money on a free agent QB , but had enough smarts to play the better QB in Wilson , the guy who gives you the nest chance to win , never mind the cash and the politics .

This decision reeks of both.

Is that amazing or what - did anybody think that a midget, rookie QB was gonna start in front of the best $26 million FA QB avaialable (minus Manning) coming from a great team? Is Wilson real or an illusion?

SD:

No surprise he can play , the surprise is he got  a fair shot .

The NFL is death on non prototypical size at that position see Doug Flutie.

Farve said it best , these guys get overpaid to think ,and ,miss the obvious .

He referenced Cam Newton  6'6" rifle arm track speed
smart and articulate , what was the question again ?

Ditto  this kid , leaves Carolina joins Wisky and was named team Captain by the team right out of the gate , plays in their offense one year and leads them to the pinnacle .

Comes into Seattle , and just took over .

Vs KC took the ones on 5 or six consecutive scoring drives with his arm and legs .

Predraft all you heard was if he was three inches taller , you could put him in the conversation with Luck and RG3.

One of those things , where he landed in a better situation by falling in the draft , not sure if he would have enjoyed the same success in Miami or here for that matter with our dynamics or any team for that matter , If the coaching staff and front office doesn't create the right atmosphere for talent to prosper.
