AA - ".....so covered for themselves (and for him) with the failed physical story."

I don't know, that might cover for us, but i can't imagine Bunkley and his agent would stand for that statement being fabricated...all they'd have to say is - "Broderick never took a physical in Cleveland" and leave them to explain why they said that he did.

Maybe the Browns were too embarassed to say, "He just didn't want to play here so we rescinded the trade rather than have to deal with a potential holdout and someone who is pissed off about being here."

Bunkely probably figured the Browns were committed to Rubin and Taylor, so they just wanted him for "veteran depth", whereas he had definite plans on starting. The Broncos gave him a chance to start and earn a big contract, which he took full advantage of.

But now I think they look equally stupid for saying the guy failed his physical when it's now obvious there was nothing wrong with him at all.

They should have just said that Bunkley asked to be traded to a team where he would get a chance to start and they decided to honor his request. Anyway, it's probably for the best since he wouldn't have stayed more than one year anyway. He really showed the Eagles. I'm just glad he went to the NFC and didn't sign a long term deal with the damn Broncos.

AA:

Well, if you don't show up your physical, you've essentially flunked it.

"His heart beat is faint.

Very faint.

Like... Bucks County faint!"

Better Bunkley and his agent not say anything.  The whole affair was embarrassing enough-- no point in calling more attention to it.   "I did NOT flunk a physical.  The truth is I got all pouty like a teenage girl whose parents wouldn't let her get her navel pierced!  I didn't come to Cleveland because even though I like Tom Heckert, I just HATE, HATE, HATE the Eagles for what they did to me!!"

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but "not showing up for a physical" might reflect badly on you or the organization offering the physical, while "flunking the physical" only reflects badly on you and i would assume lessens your market value.

Whatever - I would have figured the ex GM of the Eagles (TH) who drafted Bunkley might have had an inside track on Bunkley's true intentions......he apparently did not & it left a lot of open-ended questions making both parties look something less than competent.
