Holmgren and Heckert aren't stupid or stoopid. They were successful at NFL programs before. They know football. They are "football guys" that everyone said were needed to succeed.

I liked Hillis. OBVIOUSLY, there were issues with the guy. Holmgren and Heckert don't just throw away talent on whims.   Assuming competent people are stoopid because you don't like their moves is stoopid.

I preferred TR over JB. A WR that can stretch the field is important, but imo you build a team from the center out and by the number of plays they impact. A RB will get more touches and is important even when he doesn't touch it. He protects. He catches. He runs. A WR if so inclined, blocks and catches.  Fewer touches. Less important to every play. That's my simple way of looking at it.

And, the Browns had Hillis last year and they had a hole at RB. He wasn't there to play and instead began fussing about his contract status during the season. Hell of a RB...maybe not the best team player.
SD:

Sorry "g" but your off base here .

Holmgren was run in his first stint as GM due to incompetence and was relieved of his duties .

Heckert was Andy's flunky  and has no track record of success and his late day draft record is abysmal .

He's picked high in the draft and had the good fortune to  aquire the low fruit easy choices  your grandmother could have made .

They botched the Hillis contract  when they paid Gocong and refused to reward the most productive player on either side of the ball with a commensurate contract appropriate  to the situation , making him wait as they mouthed off useless platitudes about signing key players and all the while a 1700 yard producer got backhanded and disrespected.

It made him sullen disenchanted and effected his play , same as how Cribbs production took a drastic dip when he felt  summarily  unappreciated after being passed around as party favors each blaming the other regime for promises they weren't beholding to keeping .

These aren't computer chips to be discarded in the waste basket and these clowns fall far short of the human element of trust , needed for you to instill in a team to build the chemistry that builds that espri de corp of Championship squads .

Thats another key component they hope to bring with Weeden .

He has the arm , he's a grwon amn not a kid , the credibility to instill vets thru his expereince and handle the press is there .

They have t win now ,

The Tr pick was integral  along with the Weeden move which allowed the Vikes to play them like a tune ,  ,
Going forward they need to fill it out with speed at Wideout to add a vertical element and sure up the Rt

They've f u c k ed off a year with their failed experiment wasted on a weak armed runt , kicking that crap to the curb and clearing the deck is paramount, , we have a career backup and don't need another .

Develop Lewis and or draft another guy like Lindley or Wilson  who both have arms and are seniors  with upside as insurance and create a new atmosphere all around.

They have rebounded with a vengeance and have finally gone all in , too late after screwing up the RG3 pick but I still wish them success nonetheless.
