Yeah, the 49ers with an absolutely stacked team decided that Alex Smith was holding them back.  If he's holding them back, what does he do to a less talented team? 

He's been efficient the last 2 years because he hasn't been asked to do very much.  Let the defense and run game do the heavy lifting and pick your shots.  With a game-plan designed to avoid risk it's easy to have low interception rates and high completion %... but it only works if you don't need your QB to produce much offense.  Even the massively more talented 49ers decided this wasn't good enough for them.
