Re: FLACCO

I admittedly didn't have a chance to read through the whole thread, but a few comments:

Those that think that the Ravens let Flacco walk after this year, regardless of what happens in the next 12 hours, are....let me see if I can put this in the right PFF terms....OUT OF YOUR FREAKING MINDS.  There is 0% chance he is playing somewhere else next year.

Regarding whether Flacco is "elite" and how he supposedly stacks up against the other "elite" QBs with which some people say he should not be valued, or even spoken in the same sentence.  My view is he's elite enough for Baltimore...and the replacement costs/risks are too great to let him go.

When you look at Flacco's track record, especially in the playoffs, one thing that jumps out at me is the number of playoff games he's been expected to win on the road.  9 games so far and he's won 6.  I believe that is unprecedented.  How many road playoff wins does Brees have? (hint: the same number as that person you see in the mirror every morning).  Peyton Manning was in the league for longer than Flacco's current 5 years before earning his first road victory (and at this point, it is unlikely that he gets the 4 more wins he needs to match Flacco's current number of road victories).  Brady?  Yes, truly an elite QB, but Flacco was in his junior year at (mighty) Delaware the last time Tom Terrific won on the road.

More about Brady....for all the mystique about him and the Patriots in the playoffs, including today, their last 10 playoff games have been at either Foxboro, or at neutral sites (2 SB losses, btw).  What would Flacco's record and national perception be if 9 out of 11 of his playoff games had been played at M&T (as opposed to the reverse)?  Of course, you can say that an "elite" QB gets the Ravens home field advantage....maybe, but it is a team game, and the Ravens don't get 6 yearly contests versus the Jets, Bills and Dolphins.

He may not be "elite" in terms of fantasy stats, or national perception, but who cares.  He's worth top money to the Ravens because of what he means to them:  A QB that wins far, far more games than he loses and gives them a legitimate chance to get to the Super Bowl.

Peter

Are you saying Oz is going to pay Joe the 20 mil an elite Q B gets?

And he will find the cash ....... Cap....... Where?

I hope you are right in one sense. Paying Flacco Bree's Manning Brady money with that old tired roster will make the Ravens also rans .

If Flacco maintains his stance of being paid as elite, how do you keep him?

Flacco is getting paid. No matter who they have to cut. He's a Raven for life now.

Wake me up when we are 10 and 6...

Flacco just wrote his paycheck.  Yes he'll get paid...the deal will be structured to be, if not cap-friendly, at least cap-neutral.  Ray Lewis retiring saves them $4.5M against the cap to start...that goes right to Flacco.

Boldin and Reed are also gone (hopefully with rings on their fingers).  Ozzie did this three years ago when he cut Mason, Heap, Gregg and McGahee loose.
