I cringed when I heard him say "process," too, but mostly because of how I knew that word would resonate with the fans.  The truth is, any effort to build a consistently successful organization in any business (even sports) is a process.  There is no magic wand.  There are no magic words.  It's hard work and it requires buy in from everybody involved.  And, no, it doesn't happen overnight.

As for the "Browns fan growing up" stuff, I could care less.  I don't care whether the guy was pretending to be Ozzie Newsome or Franco Harris - just do the job for us now.

Except " process" doesn't freak me out at all. It's the truth.
Of course its a process. The reason my stomach dropped is because it also becomes an excuse by a lot of coaching staffs for the first year mediocre to bad results.

"It's a process. We're trying to set up this organization for long term success. We might have a tough year, maybe two, but we know we're really close."

Now I know Haslam and Banner are uncompromising and will accept nothing but significant improvements and playoff caliber teams. But if that's true, that often leads to a hair trigger if things don't go that way right away. Especially when the fans turn negative.

I like Chud. I liked what he did when he was here. I have no idea if he's ready to be a head coach. Plenty of awesome coordinators crash and burn. Maybe most of them. He is no sure thing. Hope for success, but prepare for the worst. Experience tells me off season optimism was only warranted 2 out 13 times...and neither of those two were the first year of the new coaching staff.

There were better odds before the move. Different time. Different roster.

If past is prologue he's got about 5 games .

My advice is sign FAs. Lots of them.

Respectfully disagree. Haslam and Banner are not hair trigger type guys. THey want continuity because they know continuity gives the same value as an extra 2nd round draft pick.

OTOH I totally agree that they demand accountability. So I see the new regime as pushing very hard, and getting Chud everything they can so he (Browns) can succeed.

Therefore, in one sense you are correct about the hair trigger thing. If they see Chud is over his head and cannot do it. They will fire him. They will not take the chicken way of Mike Holmgren who wasted a whole season by giving Mangini an extra year. But here again they are not like MH whose paucity of research resulted in the hiring of the tepid PS.

They have done the homework. Chud has a proven record of adapting to the talent of the players he has and enhancing it. We are a much better team today, solely because we have Chud and no longer have PS.
