Re: Browns Sign Jackson
There's a lot of Big Show haters out there, but it was because of him that we have a D coaching staff with all former coordinators or more with Jauron, Rhodes and Davis. Not only the knowledge and experience, but the players buy into their schemes w/o question. This is huge. This is also important for bringing in FA's on the D side of the ball.

Re: Browns Sign Jackson
When I questioned Rubin's 3 year/27 mil deal, I was told I wasn't a Browns fan, so I guess I'm really not a Browns fan by questioning this deal.
I really like Rubin and Dqwell (I'm probably on of the bigger DQwell fans here), but it seems like this is a lot of money for these players. Now, of course, no one really knows how this ties in with our salary cap.
However...
This is how our team is going to be built. We're going to build through the draft and re-sign our own players to have some continuity. To that, I don't mind near as much. Now, if we're going to turn over the FO/coaching staff every 2 years, then these types of signings look much worse than what they are.
Next up? Alex Mack.
You play to win the game.

He's an OK player but he's not special by any stretch. Did he make the Pro Bowl this year?
Scratching my head on the terms of the deal .. We overpaid, but the 19 million guaranteed isn't all that bad.

Next up? Alex Mack. What is the round number 7- or 8- mil per? When he's been healthy he's been No. 1 or 2 in the league in tackles. I'd say he's worth top end MLB dollars.

Scratching my head on the terms of the deal .. Do we have a break down of how the numbers come out? How much per year actual not average? this could be a 3-4 year deal with a back end that he will never see. And Pro Bowls ? really ? When was the last time SKM earned his spot, not had it handed to him by the nfl media machine ?
It amazes me that some posters can read a single sentence and find War and Peace in the spaces with in it.

When he's been healthy he's been No. 1 or 2 in the league in tackles. I'd say he's worth top end MLB dollars. I'm happy with it, especially compared to David Harris' 4 yr/36 mil deal he got a few years back. I like Dqwell more than Harris. Most of these longer term deals are back-ladened and are restructured later and don't actually cost the team as much as they sound. But, like I said, if we can't have continuity at the coaching and FO, then a new FO could come in here, see Dqwell as a huge contract wanting to switch defenses and ship him off. I really hope we can have continuity.
You play to win the game.

Scratching my head on the terms of the deal .. We overpaid, but the 19 million guaranteed isn't all that bad. I was a little surprised at the high salary, but since DQ is projected to be the heart and soul of the defense the way somebody, someday should be at quarterback for the offense, it was worth it. Gocong was paid almost that much per year (if I recall correctly), so DQ had to surpass that and make top linebacker bucks on the team. It's still a little under the franchise amount, I believe. The team also showed to the rest of the team that if you produce here, you'll eventually get paid.
I think DQ has matured quite a bit after his trip to Africa. He knows God has blessed this land and DQ doesn't take it for granted.

We are turning the corner... Is that why im in tears? Talk your numbers all you want. This man, the one that wears jersey 52, feels what we felt. Incredible. This is why I LOVE THE FN BROWNS.

To think, a large portion of the fan base once wanted to run DQ out of town. SHH! Doubt? What doubt? They were his fans all along! They just KNEW he was gonna be a great player for us! Sheesh.
I did learn a lot by watching Jim Brown run the ball. I learned to follow Gene Hickerson. - Leroy Kelly

Next up? Alex Mack. This is a fair deal for both sides--assuming Jackson can stay on the field. I have some concerns in that area, needless to say.

Sheesh. It is rediculous how some fans want our best players run out of town. You need guys that are passionate like DQ, like Hillis, and yes, they do F'n get hurt some time....but like Lombardi said, it's not whether you get knocked down that matters, it's whether you get up again that counts.

When he's been healthy he's been No. 1 or 2 in the league in tackles. I'd say he's worth top end MLB dollars. Wasn't Andra Davis up there i tackles every year as a Brown? Was he considered top end? I find that stat a little hard to use. Our offense is on the field so little that a MLB is going to have a ton of tackles because they're on the field for 2/3 of the game. Additionally, our run defense is always so pathetic that teams run more than pass. So again, any MLB on the Browns is going to have a ton of tackles...but usually the tackle is 5-8 yds past the line of scrimmage.
