Part of why Giants passed on Braylon-Don't shoot the messenger
First of all, let me start out with the fact that I think this is ridiculous. I have a friend who is inside the NY Giants and this morning I talked to him about the draft and the subject of Edwards came up.
No lie, he said that there was a big concern how he would fit in the locker room because a lot of people thought he was gay. He said that for some reason a good deal of the players believe that Braylon is gay and that is why he wants to go to New York (because it is a better atmosphere for homosexuals) and this has actually come up as a concern within the Giants in trading for him.
First of all, I think it is completely stupid. Whether he is gay or not, it shouldn't matter. I don't believe he is gay, but hell if I know. But obviously the NFL is filled with meatheads how aren't particularly tolerant and apparently there is a potentially big locker room issue.
I was blown away that this was actually a legitimate factor as to why the Giants didn't pull the trigger, and I was assured that this was not only a factor, but a BIG factor.
Again, I know this is ridicuolous and my goal isn't to slander Braylon Edwards or anything, but I found it absolutely absurd that this was a factor in the Giants hesitation.
I love Braylon and am thrilled that he is staying and hope he returns to his '07 form, so don't take this as any attempt to slander him. Also, I could give a crap if he is and I think it is a shame that he would be shunned because of his orientation.
I know I will get flamed for this, but I was floored when I heard that this was a reason for backing away from Edwards.

Did he turn gay before or after attending the University of Michigan? Edit: If that's true, then it's just plain dumb from a football standpoint on the Giants part. Anyway, I don't think Edwards is gay, but I couldn't care less what he does in his free time as long as he isn't running people over.

It absolutely isn't out of my ass. I'm not saying he's gay; but it is a fact that this was a concern within the Giants. I think it is 100% retarded, but it is true.

Braylon isn't gay.
Being young, well dressed / groomed, good looking and having aspirations outside of football doesn't make you gay.

Not an attack on you - understand you're just relaying the message - but this is really dumb and I don't beleive that Bralyon's perceived sexuality had anything to do with the Giants decision.

Re: Part of why Giants passed on Braylon-Don't shoot the
It is stupid, but I can tell you that it did. There was a real concern that he would have trouble in the locker room and that some of the team leaders had a problem with him.
I think it is stupid. No one hear knows if it is true, and even if it was, who gives a crap. I could care less if someone is gay. What is dumb is that people would actually not want a great player because of it.
If everyone found out Kosar was gay, would you suddenly hate him?

This is slightly more believable than if you had posted that your dog died, Butch. Very slightly.

Re: Part of why Giants passed on Braylon-Don't shoot the
I dont believe that Braylon is gay. I dont believe that other players think that he is gay. I dont believe that NYG would pass on his for this reason.
The ONLY reason that CLE and NYG didnt make the trade is because CLE wanted more than NYG was willing to give up.
Kudos NYG. When you wanted him he was a Pro Bowler. Now that you didnt get him then he is gay?
WAS HE GAY WHEN HE ROASTED YOUR ASSES ON MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL LAST YEAR?

I'm not suggesting anything you're saying isn't true, Butch, but I have a very difficult time believing it was anything more than a compensation issue.
Gay. C'mon.
As if Braylon playing for the Giants, or Jets, or 49ers would make him being gay more acceptable in the context of NFL locker rooms.
Stop it.

This sounds like damage control from the Giants instead of admitting that they couldn't pony up the picks to get him.

RE: Part of why Giants passed on Braylon-Don't shoot the messeng
When at Ohio st. you always hear stupid rumors about Michigan football players and thought nothing of it ( thinking most of them were BS). The "BE is gay" rumor I heard from a few people who played Ohio St. football some played against BE and some players who heard it from previous Ohio St. players. Not saying this means anything but just saying it is not the first time I have heard this.

Wow. I would never have seen that to be a reason they didn't make the trade. It's better that we hung on to him. We might have a really good recieving corps. At least, we didn't trade him for nothing, like I thought we would have.

Remember a while back when Winslow was gay and had grapefruit-sized testicles?
You know what's gay? This conversation.

RE: Part of why Giants passed on Braylon-Don't shoot the messeng
Today was the first time I heard it. Again, don't care, but can't believe it was a factor. And trust me, it was a factor. Maybe it wasn't the ultimate factor, but apparently a couple of veterans expressed issues with Braylon joining the team.
I read all kinds of quotes in the press from players saying they wanted him to be a part of the team too, so I was surprised to hear this, but my source insisted that it was a huge factor.

Re: Part of why Giants passed on Braylon-Don't shoot the
While in a perfect world sexual preference should have no bearing on where you work it just doesn't work like that.
If any of your guys remember all the media coverage over Esera Tualo coming out of the closet you hear a lot of talk about how the locker room works. A testosterone driven work place and in a lot of locker rooms there are a lot of hard core religious people that don't necessarily agree with that way of life.
I can see where if true the Giants would have to consider it if true.

That's a new one...lol
The reason Braylon didn't get moved is because the Giants basically wanted him for free.
Period!

I did read that his pre-game meal consists of a sliver of trout spritzed with lemon, and baby carrots.
