Modestly more. And during an economic slowdown.

Well - if Europe is any indication
,,,austerity may not be a good thing.
From my own rudimentary/meager economic thought ---- it seems like more spending in the face of high unemployment is a better policy. In effect - you leave the budget balancing to later and fix the employment problem first. If private industry won't hire then stimulating the economy from govmt. is the only alternative.

"Since I've been president, federal spending has risen at the lowest pace in nearly 60 years. Think about that."
--I am thinking about that Mr. Obama. I'm thinking how ridiculous it is of you to think that it's okay to keep spending at the same levels Bush did that got us to the 1 trillion dollar deficit that you inherited. Why do you you think that's a good thing?
...Seriously, either Obama is trying to play us all for fools or he has an IQ of less than 100.

Pesky Facts
He inherited a depression, unlike Bush. May not be the best time to cut spending but he sure isn't going crazy as talk radio tries to tell us.

And the deficit as a percentage of GDP is lower than 2009.

Re: Pesky Facts
As long as somebody (anybody) is actually looking at these things called NUMBERS, interest payments by the federal government are much LOWER as a function of GDP than when this Saint Guy named Reagan was hanging around, inspiring us.

Re: Pesky Facts
He didn't inherit a depression.......he even says so. He says he inherited a recession and he took the necessary steps to avoid a depression. I call BS on that but those are his words.
Reagan inherited a far worse and miserable economy from Carter. He didn't bitch and whine about it like Barney 3.5 years later and blame Carter he confidently went about doing what he said he would do and turned the economy around big time. Huge economic growth and job creation. One of the biggest, if not the biggest, economic boom during peace time in the US.
The guy is a big spending/taxing liberal period. He has no record to run on and can only resort to fear mongering and attacking Romney. Really a socialist/marxist.
He is on record as saying he supports a single payer healthcare system, that things work better when you spend the wealth around, and that there comes a time where you have made enough money.
Also will be the first prez to have negative job creation and lower the credit rating of the US among many other failures.
He has had his chance, he sold a bunch of people a bill of crap and he needs to be shytcanned. Hopefully come November there will be more citizens that believe in themselves and a free market capitalist system with less government intrusion than those that like big government, negative job creation, and trust the government to spend their money more than themselves and he will in fact be shytcanned. Lord knows he deserves it.

...Seriously, either Obama is trying to play us all for fools or he has an IQ of less than 100. The difference is one of them chose to spend (and cut taxes) so that we could watch our troops die overseas for seemingly nothing while simultaneously letting wealthy Americans enjoy their lowest income tax rate in the history of this country. The other one is spending in an effort to boost job creation and ensure that we don't fall into a depression, something austerity minded Europe might not be fortunate enough to avoid. Those seem like differences worth mentioning.

As long as you're willing to ignore actual data and focus only on Fox News, you'd be right. Sellas wrote: I don't understand that graph.

Re: If Obama truly believes this...
That's not the point. The point is that Obama is still spending as much as Bush, yet he's trying to decieve us that he's not. Why doesn't he just say "We're spending at the same out-of-control rate as Bush, except we're spending it on stuff that I think is good."

Re: Pesky Facts
That graph is a great spin on numbers. What dollar amount has he already spent in less than four years? You will find it's more than GWB spent over both of his terms combined. Either way, both spent too much and it's sickening.
