As long as it says "champion" I couldn't care less how it looked

Overall, I agree with the sentiment.  However, this trophy just seems to be very cheap looking, (especially compared to the old one :

This one here looks more like either the business end of an ink pen, a can of lipstick or some person's obsession with phallic symbolism.

I care...when something is done as poorly as that Trophy is done, it cheapens the entire event ever so slightly,

It is like they wanted to make something that could be easily held in the air.

The flat football is atrocious.

Compare to the Crystal Football and then try to me how this is an upgrade, or an equal?
By the time you figure it out, it will be too late anyway...

Agree not the most pleasing of designs, but I don't care if it's a rock painted gold with a tag riveted to it.  The way to make it look best is under a spotlight in the OU trophy case.

Looks terrible.  I am ok with changing a trophy but the change has to surpass the old, this did not.  This looks like something that would be handed out for a tennis championship or something.  Crystal Ball puts this one to shame.

They took the freakin' air out of the football. You couldn't even play ball with that thing. It HAS to look like you could take it off the stand and play catch with it!   THAT"S THE RULE.  rolleyes

Very sleek, very chic, very European, very minimalist --- and very awful.

I don't really care what the trophy looks like...just as long as OU wins it..I don't even know what the 1950 55 and 85 NC trophy looks like.

I would have liked it if they had that design but kept the crystal football on the top of it.

Re: The New NC Trophy

Trophy is two parts:

College football has its new championship trophy to signify the start of a new era.

Six months before the sport's four-team playoff crowns its first champion, the 26.5-inch high, 35-pound trophy, which features an ascending virtual football, was unveiled Monday morning.

Designed by Pentagram, the trophy features a focused football at the center of the base that rises to form an actual-size ball. Standing at a total height of 3 feet, including the base, the trophy and base are two separate pieces, so the trophy can be lifted up independently when it is awarded at the national championship game.

Bill Hancock, the College Football Playoff executive director, said he would save the first hoist of the trophy from its base for after the national championship game, which will be played Jan. 12 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Hancock said as many as four-dozen trophy designs were considered.

The trophy is handcrafted by the fine art foundry Polich Tallix. Craftsmen worked for three months, combing cutting edge technologies with metal casting and finishing techniques to create the trophy.

Handmade from 24-karat gold, bronze and stainless steel, the trophy is 26.5 inches tall. The base is formed from bronze with a heat-applied and hand-rubbed black patina finish, and is 12 inches high, weighing 30 pounds. Total weight of trophy and base is approximately 65 pounds.

Hancock called the trophy "a substantial piece of art."

.................................................. .................................................. ..........................

I would love to see the other designs that were voted down.
