Here is a look at the planned renovations to Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium:

PHASE ONE
* Switzer Center renovation, including new weight room, new coaches office and a grander entrance facing the south.
Fan amenities, including new bathroom and concession areas, plazas for fans to gather and backs for the bleachers.

PHASE TWO
* New luxury suites spanning the width of the west-side upper deck, to balance that on the east side.
* A new pressbox above the luxury suites.

PHASE THREE
* A video/scoreboard above the north grandstands to match the video board on the south, plus nominal changes to the seating.

At OU all it takes is the right leadership to put the championship recipe together.

Due to our changing economy that has reduced disposable incomes for many I don’t think ticket demand is as much as some people seem to think.

It’s a lot easier and cheaper to sit at home and watch on a big HD TV

At OU all it takes is the right leadership to put the championship recipe together.

That ugly south end zone has got to go. It looks like a poorly planed after thought.

Ok im thinking that Houston's Reliant stadium was built brand new from ground up with a freaking retractable roof and all seat backs for $350 million back in 02. It may be around 400 mill @ todays rates.
Baylors new stadium is $250 mil.
TCU 150 mil.

For $400 million, this is all we get or why could we not build a new stadium? So $400 mill gets us A weightroom, skyboxes and a scoreboard? I have some great porta pottys i want to sell Boren for $250k a pop!!

If we don't expand capacity I'll be extremely disappointed.

The time line for stadium construction will depend a lot on donations and economic factors….

Since so many of OU’s major donors make their wealth from the energy business we had better hope crude oil stay about where it is.

At OU all it takes is the right leadership to put the championship recipe together.

I would hope others read Bozzzzz44's comment above and comment further about building a NEW stadium with retractable roof ......I haven't seen Reliant Stadium in Houston so can anybody who has been in it please tell us about the perks and amenities of Reliant and whether upgrading Memorial stadium is better than building a completely new one ????? ...................seems like the expenditure is roughly the same...........jnevel, neal, WLTDO, ???????

I've only been to Relient Stadium once (OU vs CU Big 12 title game) and thought the stadium was absolutely monstrous. Thing was massive.

Agree.  The South End is minor league at best.  Think there's still a long waiting list for season tickets so the demand is there, but guess their cost - benefit study must have showed it would cost more to bowl in/fix it than the income they'd get from the additional seats for a long long time.

Hopefully potential big donors are looking at this and asking the same questions.  Reno sounds great but that amount compared to what others are spending on entire stadiums seems out of balance.  Was thinking for $400 mil the entire stadium was getting bowled and luxury suites, press box, weight room, new locker rooms; pretty much an entire make-over.  This doesn't seem like much.  The press needs to question this, too.
