If it's a KIFFIN, there's probably something nefarious about what is being done ...

This is fairly old news.

In case you missed the podcast with our new OL coach, listen to it.  He even mentions learning who the recruit listens to and trusts.  You have to get in their ear as well.

Douchebags are kicking the heck out of the nondouchebags right now in recruiting.

Get ready for Bob and the staff to be more douchebag.  Maybe not to the extent of Kiffin's little brother.

Whatever trips your trigger.  I just don't believe that the ends justify the means.  Each to their own.

It is not my trigger that is tripping.  Connecting the dots.  Patton and Kittle both removed from the staff for underperforming position groups (run blocking) and lack of recruiting.  They bring in a guy that appears to be a good recruiter and in one of his first interviews, he touches on the exact thing that this thread is about.  Finding out who the player trusts and is helping him make his choice.  Regardless of if it is his girlfriend, friend down the street, uncle, mom, total stranger, etc.

We all know that the world of big time college football has a very dark underbelly that most care not to acknowledge. You absolutely will not succeed in this business with a nice guy attitude.  Even "Godlike" Tom Osborne made some calls that pushed the envelope (to put it mildly) of NCAA legality.

It's time to get after it.  Not advocating anything illegal, but OU should be pushing the envelope also.

Exactly.  If calling the kids girlfriend is not against NCAA rules, you better make that call.

We got beat out by Ole Miss for Treadwell.  His mom made comments that one of the main reasons was the Ole Miss staffs persistant calls to her and the relationship they had with her.  Said no other staff talked to her as much or had the relationship with her.

Also like Bedenbaugh said, OU has a ton of stuff to sell.  So much to sell that he did not even know the full extent yet.  Add that stuff to the type of recruiting other staffs are doing and we should be able to bring some of the same type of talent that Bama is.  We will still be hurt by low in state numbers compared to Bama, but we should be able to make up ground some.

Or regular criminal law legality, e.g., hiding a gun the cops were looking for.  One of the most unseemly things he would do is trying to meet with the female assault victims of his players as well as witnesses to their alleged crimes.  Lots of cringe-inducing quotes:

"I wouldn't call it a beating. But [Phillips] certainly did inflict some damage to a young lady."

"It's not as though Lawrence is an angry young man all the time and a threat to society. But there are occasions every four to five months where he becomes a little explosive."

Re: Kiffins little brother bombards recruit's girlfriend

I'm surpursied that we've ever landed one quality recruit.  I mean we need to be talking to girlfriends, facebooking these kids, setting up fake jobs for these kids and just doing whatever it takes to trick some kid into coming to the University of Oklahoma.  :)
Come on guys, this is getting ridiculous.  Bob has seen the light and recruiting is once again a #1 focus but houding a kids girlfriend is going to far.  You saw the movie He Got Game and it didn't work out in the end.

I've now heard about Osborne hiding a gun, that was evidence, a couple of times.

Does anyone know if Osborne was charged and if not, why not?  Most states have a law against tampering with evidence, which generally includes hiding evidence.

Doing so is absolutely wrong and deserves punishment.

The story involved a player that had allegedly fired a .22 pistol at a car.  Osborne confronted the player about it after hearing stories.  The player said he had a pistol and Osborne had an assistant (Kevin Steele) get the gun.  No charges had been filed at the time this happened, therefore no weapon involved in a felony case was taken/hidden.  When charges were filed he contacted the police to turn over the weapon. The Lincoln police chief had a hard on and publicly accused Osborne of tampering.  IMO the chief used the incident as a way to make a name for himself as a maverick.  The accusation was bs.  It didn't and was never going anywhere except obviously in the court of public opinion as it's still being erroneously recounted here ("who'll give back my reputation?").  Think about your workplace, you ever drop the ball or have something go wrong for reasons more complicated than they appear?  Pretty cool if you have a boss that has your back and takes your word until facts prove otherwise.  That's what any leader worth a damn does and conversely, who has respect for a boss/leader that throws people under the bus at the first sign of a problem?  Those guys are douchers and we all know'em when we see'em.  Osborne may not have been perfect, but I always respect guys that stick their neck out for you when they don't have to.  You can argue that he was motivated because some were tremendous players, but there were just as many that rarely or never saw the field that he went to bat for.  It's just routine leadership 101 stuff, but a commodity more and more rare.
