There is an on going fight in higher education over what a college degree "should cost" and it is being led by Gov. Good Hair Perry.  He is stuffing all of the college's BOR's with "his" guys and is determined that all undergraduate degrees cost no more than 10,000 dollars- which would necessitate most being taken on-line because of cost.

If he gets his way, all degrees in Texas will be worth nothing more than a University of Phoenix degree.

Perry has been waging war against UT President Powers because Powers had the guts to stand up to him trying to make a university degree mean more than just passing an on-line exam.  It has now reached to the state Senate where, just yesterday, Lt. Gov. Dewhurst decried the smear campaign against President Powers that is going on and led by Perry.

Never, ever vote for an aggy for anything.

To the contrary, Perry is not loading up the BOR's with allies. In fact, he's made significant enemies of his own alma mater's BOR with his efforts to steer the two flagship universities away from research and more towards teaching. He has set up an advisory board to deal with these issues and the head of the board is Jakie Sandifer's son, who was a Phi Delt @ UT with my two sons.

Perry is reviled by academia in this state.

Doesn't he realize that watering down the education only decreases its value? The answer to rising costs isn't to cheapen or devalue the degree. Universities should not be modeling themselves after online degree factories. That's not higher education and it will not benefit anyone. Dumbing down the university system will not help America compete in the international markets in any field.

You do realize that literally every university on the planet has online courses, including Oklahoma? I guarantee he is not the first D1 football player to have a quarter/semester with all online courses, but he is apparently the first who has a Heisman.

I saw this on Houston's local news.  Doesn't really seem to be all that newsworthy.  It was said he is taking only his sports management classes online (the only thing he is taking this semester) and that this may be the trend towards athletes that achieve this level of status.  Manziel is expected to return to classes on campus at some point; although no one really knows if that will be the case or if he even completes his degree.

Its not a negative thing unless you just want to see it that way......

It's okay down there...been there 5 or 6 times actually. Had friends down there and watched OU down there 4 times alone. The A&M Campus is a concrete jungle though...not my liking at all.
