Re: Demetrius Campbell to OU?
DT is where it all starts on defense. We have got to take this chance. If in the future we find our self’s with enough quality DT depth we could move 1 or 2 DL to the OL where we will be plugging holes in another season or 2.
At OU all it takes is the right leadership to put the championship recipe together.

You're right. It just seems that once one of our guys is singled out as maybe not making it in, then they usually do not make it in to OU.

It's surprising to hear that Demetrius Campbell (6’5, 311, 5.1) of East Los Angeles Community College is not committed and signed by a top school at this point: http://oklahoma.247sports.com/...-from-OU-117342

The only way I see us taking another DT now is if the guy is someone that could immediately get into the rotation. I like Campbell but he's undersized and I don't see him getting in the rotation next year. Why not just save the ship for 2014? He definitely doesnt sound undersized to me. Scout has him listed at 6'5 290 and in his own tweet he says hes at 6'5" 311 now.

From an interview with Campbell on another site: “I weighed in yesterday at 311-pounds,” said Campbell “I know some of these sites have me at 270, but I played the whole season at 300 something pounds. I just look lighter because I am tall and lanky but I am a solid 300-pounds.”

RE: Demetrius Campbell to OU?
I read an interview with him on West Virgina board where he stated something about past run ins with the law, that may be the reason he has trouble getting offers. "Albright: Everywhere I look, I find examples of how outstanding your character is on and off of the field. What past experiences have shaped the way you approach how you play football and how you approach choosing a college? Campbell: Well, I would’ve attended WVU out of high school but multiple arrests and bad grades helped land me in JUCO, but I feel California and jail were the best things for me because they taught me to forever be humble and how important an education is. Also, coming from a single parent home and poverty in Florida I feel it’s my job to be the man of my family and give my younger brother and sister something to look up to as well as making sure I can provide for my mother who struggles along with my grandmother to put me through junior college. I just want to take care of them which leads me to want to inspire others and work as hard as I can to get to the top because I’m blessed to be here today and I want to show anybody that hard work does pay off and dreams can come true."
Maybe he has his act together now, who knows.

that sure sounds like a very well prepared & written statement to me. My question is, who wrote it? A kid who had very poor grades?

Demetrius Campbell© @ dcampbell92 I'm officially waiting to hear from # Oklahoma now # OU Expand Collapse 2 hrs ago It's looking like OU might have been waiting on TJ and that if the coaches decide to pull the trigger, this is where they will go.

ZachGivens wrote: Guy has been wanting to go to OU for a long time now. I want guys who want to be here. They tend to put out maximum effort, no entitlement worries. Someone pointed out that we're bringing in 4 DTs this Fall and only need depth in the Spring. Well, that's a load of crap. You can never have enough DTs. Only one of those incoming DTs is (virtually) guaranteed to play right away (Russell). One HS player may not qualify (Huggins), one needs to put on even more weight (Romar) and one's coming off injury (Walker). How about another healthy JUCO instead? Or would that make too much sense? I'd rather take my chances on a JUCO player than a HS player any day, especially on defense. I'm also partial to California players (more so than Texas players). With this young man's motor and his desire, I think they'll be able to coach him up, put weight on him, and mold him into a better player than he already is.
My goal in life is to be half as good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

Had a pretty big spare tire when he was just 270ish. If he has gotten above 300 I assume a bunch of it is bad weight.
