Miami is going to walk because the NCAA overstepped?

Amazing, but I guess it happens everyday in our court systems.  An obvious guilty person does not have to do any time because of screw ups by the prosecution.

The funny thing is that the attorney involved was a UM grad.  Perhaps she "helped" the NCAA with the notion all along that she was going to go to Shalala in the end and tell her what the NCAA tried to do?  If so, Luther Campbell and all the rest of the UM thugs should give her a hefty bonus for saving the program?

(From the article) The embattled NCAA said it was pressing on with the case against Miami!

I think Miami's admission of guilt is going to do them in to a dgree.

I hear, (and I know people who know people who work with other people I know) that this is going to the supreme court later down the line and Miami is going to get hit hard but will get a good deal for already self impossing punishment but wont get away scott free.

My jaded opinion - if you don't mind me butting in - but I've felt all along, since the day Yahoo broke the Shapiro story, that the NZAA would find a way to let Miami off easy.

I really don't see where this stuff in Miami is significantly different than what the NZAA did with Logan Young in the Alabama football case in 2002 or with Ed Martin in the Michigan basketball case in 2003/04.

But both those programs took pretty good shots from NZAA penalties - just wait and see if Miami doesn't walk away relatively unscathed.  Penalized, Yes - but kneecapped?  I'm betting, No.

Its not an accident that they hired a former Clinton Cabinet official as their President.  Donna Shalala didn't get that job based on her looks or charming personality.

I agree.  Gutting USC and razing Penn State, but allowing Miami to walk should cost Emmert his job.

NOT Miami's fault though if they get off.

I don't think this was anything beyond the NCAA's usual incompetence. If they wanted to find a way to let Miami off the hook, they would have done it in a way that doesn't make them look like total fools. Why should the NCAA favor Miami? Don't see any conspiracies here. Just a bunch of inefficient, overpaid dolts running the NCAA. It should be disbanded and replaced by a new rules and enforcement agency. It's an embarrassment to college athletics.

Jaded opinion is probably about right.   I don't get the NZAA spelling, but the whole issue suggests the NCAA trying their best to get Miami and got carried away....not the other way around as you suggest  (and please let's not draw other political sides into it..that only dumb-downs your opinions).

You cannot allow an organization like the NCAA to run amuck outside of the actual laws and rights of other people and institutions...even if they might be guilty, every entity has certains rights and allowed due process.  It's time some people learned that and quit the rush to superficial judgements and penalties fueled by group think and agendas.    Else don't complain when the same thing happens to you.    My personal opinion, based on lots of group think, inuendo and conjectures is that the entire SEC should be tossed on probation along with Miami.

I understand the desire for things like due process, however the way the NCAA compliance is setup traditional notions of due process don't really apply.  The NCAA wants and encourages universities to self report and monitor themselves and yet if they are going to expect this and then allow programs to raise due process claims and force the NCAA to prove its case, then they start eating away at the motivation to self report.
