Anderson and Williams = no big loss, why do you think we took so many DT's in this class ? Simon had a lot of potential and is a big loss..

Defense next year could be worse than this year. NO experience coming back.
we saw what the d looked like last year.  so now we have no experience coming back (debatable) but its a new slate., and mikes got another year in the program.

the replacements could be better than last years starters.   yeah there's attrition but changing personnel, especially at a school like oklahoma, you know they have some elite players just waiting for a chance to shine.,

I'll wait and see how this new bunch plays before I get to up, or down about it.. The whole defense is a big question mark anyway.. Guess we will see..

It would appear that we're going to have to rely on our offense again this year.

I hope your right b/c I always thought he was underrated in high school.  Look at his offer sheet:  Arkansas, Auburn, Nebraska, OSU, Texas, UCLA, USC

He was a 3* on Rivals/4* on Scout but to me he was this underrated recruit people weren't really talking about much.

I know he has been in the doghouse lately but I hope he comes on his last 2 years.  He's a Junior now and if not this season he will have been a wasted scholly.
Peterson has the physical tools to be a good DT.  He just needs to get his mind right.  Big, strong, etc.
Can we infuse some of AD's heart into him?   Man, I wish we could clone AD's desire and passion and workout intensity into our D linemen.

Don't know how you can say someone who hardly saw the field is a big loss ? Yeah Mike Stoops talked a lot about him, but talk is cheap. OU fans have seen it b4

Same hype was made about Tom Wort when he redshirted. Same for R.J Washington and some other highly recruited guys. Until they have proven themselves on the field, I dont know how he can be a big loss.

Besides OU has some really talented CB's coming in Stanvon Taylor & L.J Moore. Zack Sanchez is no slouch either, the kid had 9 ints his SR year.

Athletically Simon was (IS) a superior athlete, he played enough last year for anybody to see that, well I guess almost anybody .. LOL

We normally redshirt our DT to get bigger, stronger and learn the D.
Right now we only have 3 DT plus the Juco Commit... Are 4 DT enough for the season?
Anderson and Williams most likely would contribute better than the 3 true freshman.
We were weak in the DL last year.  I think they are a bigger loss than Simon (short term).

We should have other CBs that are in the program that are ready to step up.

I agree that IF they all make it to campus, OU should be fine at DT by 2014.

But what about 2013?  Maybe Russell is the only newcomer who could provide quality minutes, but the bad thing is that IF he makes it to Norman, he'll have basically 1 month of practice prior to the season, not the entire spring like originally thought.

Wade- has he even played?
Phillips- some experience
Peterson- Hardly any experience and no guarantee he'll even make it through the offseason.
Russell- never played at this level
Unnamed DE to be moved inside

Your "No big loss" comment is a joke.  But that is your party line, nothing is ever too screwed up, or if it is, it will get fixed ASAP.

Serious question:  Are you content if OU was to win 9 or 10 every year and never get better than that?

"To hell with 2013, play the entire season with an eye on 2014 and pray you get to 6 wins for the bowl practices."

Not writing a whole season off and praying to reach 6 wins.  People were talking that type of season after the KSU loss and OU won out (in conference games) despite a less than stellar defense.  I expect them to contend for the conference title again--who's clearly better?

That's a point not enough people seem to be aware of. He was the better of the two when both played last year. Anderson is the biggest loss of the three for the immediate future IMO. He should have played quite a bit this year, at a position of need, had he stayed out of trouble.

Re: DT M. Anderson????????

Exactly right. And Anderson was playing 1 tech early in the season and still holding up well. Like many on here I was critical of his build and strength coming out of high school but he clearly had a serious physical transformation. Its a bigger blow than just a loss of depth.

I don't think anybody in the Big 12 clearly stands out, at least not yet, but I think right now, Baylor, OSU, and TCU will likely finish better than OU.   Throw in the Notre Dame game as a likely loss, plus the usual major upset(s) to a lesser team (Iowa St?  K State?), and there you have a 6-6.  It's not that hard to see once you take off the crimson glasses and really look at who is available and all the likely scheme changes on both sides of the ball.

We haven't even got to the injuries that will hit at some point in August.  Just not much depth on the entire defense, nor much on the OLine.

I'm skeptical about next season and I'm not alone.

Re: DT M. Anderson????????

I don't know why people have to be such downers.  We may not go into as many games with a talent or experience advantage, but that does not mean that we are resigned to losing those games.

Chemistry, sound play, winning the turnover battle, playing with heart, are all factors that can take a team farther than appearances might indicate.

Hopefully, this year, our whole can be greater than the sum of the individual parts.

Why are people down on the program?  I don't get it?

1) Basically not competing in the Cotton Bowl against a team that you normally beat.  Losses happen, and we can all accept losing a tough game against a good opponent, but getting blown out to the point that you shouldn't even be on the same field? Come on!

2) One of the worst defenses we've ever seen in the history of the program

3) Overall, recruiting was/is decent, but not up to standards with a few units.

I could go on and on, but you really, seriously, do not understand why people are down right now?

Basically your post says:  We should all be excited about the upcoming season, because if we play mistake free football, play with desire, we've got a chance to be pretty good.  This is exactly what Iowa State fans say every offseason.

I just want something more from the team I am passionate about.  A decade ago, we as fans, wanted to play everybody, and it didn't matter the circumstances.  We knew our team would compete hard in every game, with a legitimate shot at winning.  In 2013, if OU was to play Bama, I would not even feel good about OU's chances even with a +21 spread.

That is absolutely pathetic that there are now a few teams (and growing) out there that OU just can't compete with, and that's why a lot of people are "down" right now.
