Re: CB Simon, DT Anderson & Williams no longer with the team

Can't help but wonder if the firing of Shipp led M Anderson and D Williams to give it up! Both can play at a lower division of NCAA football.

Simon is big. Everyone had him penciled as a starter.

Defense next year could be worse than this year. NO experience coming back.

Possible.  From what we have seen, it appears that Williams left the team.  Not sure about Anderson.

It was expected to see guys leave and for recruiting to be hurt at least a little at first with Shipp leaving.

Re: DT M. Anderson????????

are there any sex scandals at any major universities breaking anywhere that might get someone in enough trouble that the NCAA would allow players to transfer out and be eligible right away and plug a hole like we did with the receiver spot last year?

ok that ain't happening two years in a row... but the way I understand it Drew Allen can graduate and transfer and play right off.... would there be any defensive tackles around the country that could transfer in for one year and play with out sitting out, not tie up a scholarship but for one season and move on making room for the young guys?

RE: DT M. Anderson????????

Well that hurts. We lost the entire 2010 DT class of Noble, Peterson, Humphries and Williams.
Now with anderson gone , we only have wade and phillips left from 2011.

If Bob could fire shipp a second time, he should, but cant since he is already fired.

RE: DT M. Anderson????????

I think it should be crystal clear to OU fans now why Stoops gave Shipp the pink slip. Just not getting the job done on the field and in recruiting the last couple of years.

No reason OU should be this low with numbers at DT.

No you didn't miss anything but he's been a question mark since he's been on campus as to whether or not he will actually contribute.  He's been in the doghouse for a while now.

Doesn't make sense for them to leave before they see who the new coach is. Anderson and Simon were rumored to have academic issues for awhile now. Not sure about Damon doe

I bet Peterson gets a bone now with the numbers crunch and a new coach. It's now or never. He was behind 3seniors and a solid redfresh last year. A new coach might be all the difference for him. Lets hope so

They are all academic casualties. Don't meet the requirements of being a "Student" Athlete, then you gotta go. Its that simple.

Next man up

I hope your right b/c I always thought he was underrated in high school.  Look at his offer sheet:  Arkansas, Auburn, Nebraska, OSU, Texas, UCLA, USC

He was a 3* on Rivals/4* on Scout but to me he was this underrated recruit people weren't really talking about much.

I know he has been in the doghouse lately but I hope he comes on his last 2 years.  He's a Junior now and if not this season he will have been a wasted scholly.

Peterson has the physical tools to be a good DT.  He just needs to get his mind right.  Big, strong, etc.

Simon, Anderson, and Williams HAVE QUIT!!! (newsok.com)

Oklahoma football: Gary Simon, Marquis Anderson no longer with OU football team

Cornerback Gary Simon and defensive tackle Marquis Anderson have left. Other reports say defensive tackle Damon Williams is also gone.

RE: DT M. Anderson????????

How can one of the most storied programs of all time have depth at DT and CB similar to that of a lower tier Class A Oklahoma high school team?

Next year could be a very humbling season for Oklahoma football fans.  Who knows.

RE: DT M. Anderson????????

I tend to agree with the Phantom.  There is no execuse for all the attrition along both the O and D lines.  Also, I would like to know how many player dismissals and suspensions has OU had in the past two years. It may take more than firing assistant coaches to get OU on track.  Next year is clearly, season on the brink.

RE: DT M. Anderson????????

What an unmitigated disaster this position has become.  Where is all the sunshine now?

I'm not trying to say I know a lot, because I don't, but when I posted a few months ago how bad the situation at DT was, and also mentioned that Anderson and Peterson won't likely make it to September, I was basically told to STFU, we will be fine at DT.

Huggins and Russell are not guarantees.

Peterson is far from a guarantee.

That's going to be funny, a 3 star true freshman DT (Walker) getting a lot of PT.  Not even the best coach on the planet will be able to do much with what it is left.  If I was a great DT coach, and I had other options, why would I want to throw myself into this mess?

So basically: Wade, Phillips, Walker, and a converted DE.

To hell with 2013, play the entire season with an eye on 2014 and pray you get to 6 wins for the bowl practices.

Re: DT M. Anderson????????

maybe i'm the sunshine pumper here, but it's a little early to give up on the defense/team for 2013:

1. we aren't exactly replacing harris, dvoracek, and mccoy...we've been fielding average talent and low production at dt for a few years now...maybe this is the first step toward turning some of that around
2. i would think that the lb play would pretty much have to improve or stay at roughly the same level as last year. you can't get less than zero production
3. we made it to 10 wins last year while giving up huge amounts of yards and points, so it seems possible we could do it again...this staff has been pretty good at "plug and play" at the qb spot and i think most of the rest of the offense will be better than last year

this staff has shown an ability to consistently win 7+ games for 14 years now, let's give them a chance to do it again before we just "hope for 6 wins so we can get bowl practices."  i think 14 times in a row earns you some benefit of the doubt.

i'm reminded of 2005 or 2006 ( can't remember) when we were down something like 6 d ends from the previous year due to academics/graduation/injuries and had either a wr or idiot (bomar) for a quarterback but we still won 7+ games

i don't expect a conf. championship, but history says not to bet agianst it

end of sunshine pumping....
