At this point, it would be for recruiting only.  I agree, they need to get the ball rolling, but whoever it is will not be doing any actual coaching for a few more weeks.  I would bet that we will know who the new coach is by the end of this week.

Well, those 3 DTs will be get plenty of practice.

Could they?  Yes.  Will they? they might.  They went after Bester last year for the very same reason.  The biggest question for any unsigned DTs is, would they be able to contribute?  Outside of Johnson, who is left?  He has let it be known that OU is where he will land if he cannot make it to the SEC, but he was not happy about Shipp leaving.  His options might be limited if he cannot make it to the SEC and might have to overlook his feelings about Shipp not being at OU.

He would be the guy that could make this lack of depth not look so bad.  Problem is that there is not a large chance that he plays for OU.

Thanks for the feedback. Rolling with the current numbers at the position is bad enough. And, of course, with no DT coach.

Keep in mind that Toby Johnson might not be able to contribute next year because of a knee injury. I'm thinking he injured it early so maybe he could but everybody isn't like AD when it comes to rehabing and determination

It's a rebuilding year. I say they find the defensive scheme they want to move forward with, implement and let the young guns play a lot. 2014 is the first year of the playoffs so lets get em coached up and ready for it.

After his first scheduled official visit fell through three weeks ago due to cancelled flights, MSU's remaining target for the 2013 class will take his official visit to Mississippi State this weekend.  4-star Hutchinson Community College defensive tackle Toby Johnson will visit campus this weekend, with his final decision and signing to follow soon after on February 19th.

His final suitor besides MSU was Oklahoma, but they appear to be all but out of the running.  Johnson visited the Sooners last fall, but within the past week, Bob Stoops fired Johnson's main recruiter, Jackie Shipp, and Johnson was publicly unhappy about it

Cant say Im all that unhappy about losing Anderson. I dont think Ive ever seen a weaker D Lineman in his HS all America game. My jaw actually dropped at how easily he was pushed around.
Simon on the other hand Im none too thrilled about. Hopefully this frosh class of DBs are all that.

Rumor was Simon had trouble going to class.  It's a shame as he comes from a very bad area in the St Petersburg, Fl area and this was a chance to get out.

Wasn't Simon supposed to have played for the OU basketball team also ?

I watched all america game because of Anderson....to me, he did not look like he should have been there, maybe an injury held him back, whatever, I dont think he had the talent.

Simon would now have to go to a smaller NCAA team or go to a community college and get  his grades back together. I know OU has sent guys, (Fleming?), to a community college to get grades straightened out, but so far no indication of that.
