A quick what if question

A quick what if question

What if we were still our program, all the tradition and everything we have accomplished but weren't actually OU, say we were in a different state. Do you think we would still be as successful? More or less successful. Say we were a different program in Florida or Alabama or Cali with all the talent.. do you think are success changes due to location?

I think it would easier to recruit if you are located in an area with a larger population, just from a numbers standpoint.  OU has as much history and tradition as anyone in college football, so I think they'd be competitive anywhere reasonable.

Put OUr history and tradition in a state like Florida or California and we would be unbeatable. Heck, just move us 150 miles straight south down !-35, and start counting the NC's.

Re: A quick what if question

Very good question. The short answer is that we would not be OU. OU has always overcome the demographics and the slander that came with being an Okie. OU has had to be innovative to succeed. Strategy(Bud's go-go offense).Formations (okie 52 defense). Proud homegrown talent(count the Heismans and Outlands). The Oklahoma Drill is known nationwide and used in the NFL. Some schools refuse to acknowledge it by renaming it. Young energetic coaches who are not afraid to ruffle the feathers of the establishment. Even when we borrow ideas we make them better. (wishbone and Belldozer anyone?). OU is OU and it is because of where we are at. This is why it drives bonghorn fans out of their mind. They still see dust covered jalopies coming across the river and beating their team that has the best of everything. And on and on it will go. We are Oklahoma and have  nothing to be ashamed of. Re: A quick what if question

There's deep tradition at schools in all the states you mentioned and in many other states also. So if I'm understanding your your question, it would basically be like replacing our entire staff with a given school within one of those states. There's no real answer to that. Take USC for example, I think there could be a strong argument that our staff could do a better job at coaching but may not fare as well in recruiting. There's just too many different factors to consider. Fun to think about though.
