Question for anyone with any legitimate inside info...

Has any information leaked out about who OU will interview as Defensive Line coach?

My goal in life is to be half as good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

No. However, I'm guessing that one or more will be announced before Spring practices start. Stoops said he was going to take some time but can he really do a decent job of Spring practices with coaches missing.

I think Stoops taking "some time" is just him trying to defer questions on the matter as I'm sure he's been hard at work on this even before letting coaches go this week.

I have a few contacts and I've heard very very little. I havent even heard anything about CMTuiasosopo who some thought might be a candidate. Sorry!

Eddy knows the Tulsa coaches and mentioned that CThibs isn't necessarily the guy either. He can chime in there.

While I doubt he'd be interested, that would be a heck of splash made with the hire...

I'm not in the know for who the OU coaches are leaning towards, but I do know a little about hiring in general.  There are a lot of guidelines you have to follow before you make a hire (I'm sure a state supported institution has even more requirements than the private sector).  You have to interview a certain number of applicants, of different races, give multiple people a "fair" shot, etc, etc.

As far as the O-Line, my guess is that the OU coaches know they are going to hire Bedenbaugh, and Bedenbaugh knows they are going to hire him.  They probably knew that before they fired the other coaches... but OU has to go through their due process before they can announce a hire.

OU will have the same issue with the D-Line.  If the OU staff has a good idea of who they want, they still have to go through the due process, so they can't let too much leak out early.  They were probably not too happy about how much info came out about Bedenbaugh.

it's been so long since we've had this many openings at once that maybe we are in unfamiliar territory here, but isn't it a little odd that there's zero rumors flying around?  it seems like in the past some of the worst kept secrets going was coaching search and interviews, someone usually leaks something.

Let's start some.

OSU's Gundy to take our D-Back Position! Miles back to OSU! Saban back to LSU! John Blake to Alamaba!

Having worked for the state, that's actually not accurate. You don't have to interview minorities for positions. There is no Rooney rule. But if you interview a number of applicants and all the minority applicants keep getting passed over for only white hires when they have the same or better qualifications, you'll be scrutinized as soon as a minority complains/files a lawsuit and you'll likely lose that lawsuit.

With state jobs, typically jobs have to be posted for a specified period of time and all applicants interviewed or contacted. However, in college football coaching, they aren't under the same constraints at least not in terms of public hiring announcements.

That is unusual. Although, I admit that I like it better that way. I'm waiting for the surprise.

I will be upset if it is an Arizona re-tread at DL coach. I want to see a big splash hiring. Somebody mentioned Tyrone Nix here...that would be a good one. Or Dick Bumpas from TCU. Or Chris Rumph from BAMA (not likely to happen but we're in fantasyland right now...). Or Mike Vrabel from Ohio State.

I'm actually somewhat relieved that college football is outside of all that!

(I thought I had read a few years ago, that college football was more strict, because of the public nature of the hires)

Been asking around and still haven't heard a darn thing about a potential Dline coach. Not saying I have the best contacts but I've got a few and I literally haven't recieved a single name.

RE: Question for anyone with any legitimate inside info...

I wonder if Bobs contacted anyone yet. Sure would be nice to get it done for recruiting purposes. We can take our sweet time on a TE coach, but the DL coach needs to be resolved quickly so we don't lose any more ground with recruits.
