Tyrone Nix
Why not go after Tyrone Nix to coach the DL? He interviewed at OU last year, and he has ties to SEC players. His defenses were very good when Houston Nutt was at Ole Miss, but was let go when Hugh Freeze took over.
Even though he played Linebacker, I'm pretty damn sure he can coach DT's. Jackie Shipp was a Linebacker at OU also. He is currently the Co-DC at Middle Tennessee State.

--------------------------------------------- I just think since he already interviewed with OU in the past, he might be a good one to consider

I think we need a big time hire at this position, someone who is first and foremost a proven coach who can also recruit the southeast. Knowing that he's been the DC at Southern Miss and coached at Ole Miss, I think he would fit the bill. I would still like to shoot a little higher, but that's a hire I could live with.
My goal in life is to be half as good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

RE: Tyrone Nix
We need to open up the checkbook and find the best possible candidate.

RE: Tyrone Nix
I always wonder, as a head coach, when do you hire a guy who might try to move on in a year or two (assuming he does well) to a better coaching position, or do you lean more towards guys who want to stay in that role for a while.

RE: Tyrone Nix
I think you get the best guy you can possibly get, and if someone comes after him to be their head coach in a couple of years then that just means they've been doing a good job for you. Rinse and repeat. ouwade wrote: I always wonder, as a head coach, when do you hire a guy who might try to move on in a year or two (assuming he does well) to a better coaching position, or do you lean more towards guys who want to stay in that role for a while.

Agreed, Nix was just a suggestion. OU needs to go after the best they can possibly get on this one.

Re: Tyrone Nix
I'm not sure about Nix. While Ed Ogeron was HC at Ole Miss he brought in lots of talent although a lot of it was under the radar. Problem was beyond being a good recruiter he did not have a clue.
Houston Nutt ( bag) was abd hire, but he took Ogerons recruits a did pretty well until the talent left. Nix did well at first, but then got lots of heat when the talent dried up. He might be a very good coach, but why take a gamble.
