Who gets the tight ends?

Who gets the tight ends?

If Bedenbaugh coaches the entire O-Line, who will coach the TE's? Whoever replaces Shipp will obviously get the defensive tackles, but that still leaves is TE's. Will Bob take FB's away from Gundy and create a new TE/FB position? Will he take special teams away from BJW and create a new ST/TE position? It will be interesting to see what he does. How would you divide the duties?

We'll have spot for a te/fb coach. Better yet have Norvelle coach the receiving part and the line coach can do the blocking part. We'd have a spot for a full time special teams coach then

Somewhat off topic, but do guys like Millard, who play such a variety of different roles (FB, Running back, HB, TE), go to different coaches during practice to learn several nuances?

Rumor is Bob is still trying to hire the Blob, possibly for the TE's and FB's.

I'm not going to get as bent out of shape about it this time, but I thought the same thing when someone said to me, "well at least Mangino isn't coming back," because we had hired an o-line coach.

I just kept thinking that we now have another offensive coaching position open banghead

Just an idea.  We currently have two offensive coordinators.  Heupel and Norvell both seem to stress the passing game which may be part of the problem.  What would be wrong with bringing in someone as specifically the running game coordinator?  The most difficult problem would be that may create a problem with too many chefs in the kitchen.  We all seem to recognize that the area we need to improve the most is our running production.  If I remember correctly, when Wilson was here he coached the tight ends and fullbacks and was more or less in charge of the running attack.  Maybe it is just better to forget this because I may be overthinking it a bit.

Moved to TEs/assistant head coach at Mississippi State with the hiring of Billy Gonzales as WRs coach.

Re: Who gets the tight ends?

In coaching TE's, we've had O-line coaches handling the TE's, at least lately. I'm not sure if it's generally been that way in past years or not.
What I've wondered; since TE's also run pass routes and catch the ball (in theory), do the O-line coaches teach them this too? The passing game part would seem a little out of an O-line coaches area of expertise.

Don't think you're over thinking it at all. Lots of teams have running game coordinators. How about taking the FB's away from Gundy and make him RB coach and Running Game Coordinator? Then assign one of the new hires to handle FB's and TE's.

I like it.  It would also serve the purpose of giving Gundy a much needed promotion to somewhat coordinator status.  He has been on the staff for 14 years and has been passed over for coordinator status several times.

Bedenbaugh will coach the TEs in the run game and Norvell will get them for the pass game.

We do have an extra coach - how bout a DB coach and let Mike spend more time working with the other position coaches.

Hadn't thought about the promotion for Gundy, but you're right.
