Has to be someone with experience that can recruit. Or, if we're going to experiment with someone who has not coached before, then I'd take a smart former NFL player like Jonathan Hayes was who played the position before.

My goal in life is to be half as good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

I'm not saying that we can get ANYONE that we want, but one of the great advantages of being OU is that we have the name, legacy, and finances to get a top of the line coach in whatever area that we need...

Now, let's take advantage of that legacy and go find us a game and player changer...

If we're going after college guys and we've got the money I'd go for no less than Brick Haley at LSU. Who do ya'll like from NCAA, NFL, wherever?

You want fire?  You want passion?  You want someone who loves OU?  Dusty D baby!
Another Stoops buddy with little to no coaching experience?

TEs/tackles coach Bruce Kittle won't return.

That'll push a few around here over the edge
You're exactly right, I was mostly joking.  You don't fire a 14-year assistant and replace him with someone who has little (Thibodeaux) to no (Dvoracek) coaching experience.  You up the ante and get the best you can.

The Dusty D stuff I get, but Thibs actually has coaching chops. His résumé isn't long, but the guy can coach.

Mike Stoops (DBs) and Dick Bumpas (DL) as co-def coordinators now that I'm dreaming.

Unless they are going to go after some big time big money hire like an LSU guy or a high level NFL guy and bring him in as a Dline/Co-defensive coordinator then I'd rather have CThibs. If its just as a position coach why not go with a young guy with ties to the school who can recruit this area? I really dont want a "good" older coach who knows the area. I say we either go big or take a chance on a young dynamic guy like CThibs.

I vote go big, otherwise it's a slap in the face to a great Sooner like Jackie Shipp.

Can't say I disagree. Bringing in a "good" older coach with some connections in this area just isn't going to match CShipps resume let alone his connection to our university.

I've got to believe that CMStoops knows we've got money at OU and is itching to get a huge hire to help his defense and more specifically his secondary.

Id hire Dusty Dvoracek....Highly intelligent guy, great communicator, enthusiastic, and knows the position better than 90% of the coaches out there.

The suggestions like Dusty D and every other former player that has never GA'd are funny. People cried about Kittle and he had infinitely more coaching experience than Dusty has.

Eddy,

Dusty Dvoracek is as qualified as anyone.  He knows defense as well as anyone.

The question is, can he recruit?  Dusty is a contagious energetic guy and I have no doubt he could recruit big time players to the University of OKlahoma.

Eddy, if you think its all about experience then go hire Jackie Shipp

Ya'll are way overestimating former players football IQs and knowledge. I talked to guys who played or still play at big time schools and I'm often shocked by how little they actually know. I'm not saying that is true of Dusty but many college players know little more than exactly what they were told to do.

I don't know, but having a conversation with yourself on a message board is crazy on another level.

X's and O's is not rocket science. If it were then all the innovation in the game would be taking place at the NFL level as opposed to the high school level.

The #1 criteria for a college coach is recruiting. You have to be energetic, motivated, enthusiastic and a great communicator to recruit. IN effect, you are a salesman. You can't be lazy...Dusty is taylor made to recruit.
