Kennedy Polamalu Let Go By USC

Kennedy Polamalu Let Go By USC

Kennedy Polamalu will not return as offensive coordinator/running backs coach at USC, it was announced Sunday by Trojans coach Lane Kiffin.

Wow, I'm very surprised. Well respected coach, and very well connected in california with recruits. He would be an ace for any staff that adds him. Unfortunately, we already have an absolute ace at the RB coach position, but I still thought this was newsworthy enough to post.

Timing it right after his recruits sign doesn't look very good. I wouldn't be surprised to see some recruit speak up.

What is going on out there? Everybody is leaving or getting fired except for the biggest idiot, kiffen. I say we hire this guy, if he wants to coach TE or LB. Either way, he'd be an upgrade to what we have.

Lane Kiffin: "As we continue to evaluate all facets of our program, including the organization of our staff, we made the decision to go in a different direction at this coaching position.  Kennedy Polamalu is a good coach, a good person and a good Trojan.  We wish him and his family the best."

How is this different than Patton?  There is no good time to make coaching changes. Doesn't matter if it is a chief or an indian.

Dont see the issue with replacing a tackles coach who's position has done fairly well since his hire with a former rb coach? That is a very different position to coach.

The feeling is that Lane has had three years with sorted results (some ups and and some downs).  Given the extraordinary circumstances involving the sanctions, Haden wants to be fair about this.

Last season the table was set for something special (not necessarily a national title) and instead it became a catastrophe as the team regressed on just about every front.  Therefore he needs to take whatever steps are needed to right the ship, including the replacement of parts of the coaching staff as required.

This is year four now.  Year one was a 5 loss season with no bowl.  Year two showed genuine promise with the team finishing in the top 5 in the country despite not having a bowl.  Last year the wheels unexpectedly came off.

2013 is the end of the scholarship sanctions and make or break for Lane.  Either he pulls it together and the team is back in a BCS bowl or Haden goes in a different direction.

Speculation is that in addition to the new DC (Pendergast), Lane is looking to hire a seasoned OC (maybe Jeff Tedford) and Troy P with the title of offensive coordinator was in the way of that.

If I were in Lane's shoes I'd be pulling out all the stops as well and making major changes after what happened last year.  This is no time to stubbornly hold back or be sentimental.  Jeez, he even fired his old man.

As far as Troy P goes, I'd be surprised if he didn't re-join Jeff Fisher in St Louis with the Rams.

Kennedy Polamalu and Lane Kiffin reportedly got into fight before bowl game
By Larry Brown February 18, 2013 - Posted in College Football

Kennedy PolamaluThe recent firing of running backs coach Kennedy Polamalu by USC head coach Lane Kiffin came as a surprise to most people. Kennedy was the only former Trojan player on staff, and he was considered to be a top recruiter. Though his job title listed him as offensive coordinator, that position was held mostly in name since Kiffin called the plays. But it sounds like Polamalu clashed with Kiffin, leading to his dismissal.

The Daily News’ Scott Wolf reported late Friday evening that the two had a “heated argument” on Dec. 29, two days before the team’s 21-7 Sun Bowl loss to Georgia Tech. Wolf described the incident as a “fallout.”

Kiffin kept Polamalu on staff through national signing day Feb. 6, but he was fired two days later. Wolf says Polamalu learned of his firing by reading the news on the Internet, and that Kiffin never called him. Wolf quotes a source who says that Kiffin may have felt threatened by Polamalu’s outspoken nature.

Since we do not know what happened between the two, it’s hard to say whether the firing was justified. Based on his recruiting success — Polamalu was instrumental in USC offering a scholarship to star wide receiver Marqise Lee — it seems strange that he would be fired. It also feels wrong that Polamalu read about his firing and still hasn’t heard from Kiffin.
