Why isn't Glenville a huge recruiting pipeline anymore????

It seems like Glenville has completely dried up in terms of producing alot of blue chip recruits. What happened?

Glenville is still a top program. All programs go through phases were they have more or less or the top tier athletes each year. We missed on Walker a few years ago. But I also think you won't see as many just because Meyer has gone more national in his recruiting search.  Less available to give to Ginn Sr. and the Glenville group.

Ohio State has signed at least one kid from Glenville in each of the last 10 recruiting classes. That probably does not continue with the '13 class, but I would hardly say the pipeline has stopped, simply not an elite prospect from Glenville in this class. Is there another high school in the nation that has sent at least one recruit to a specific college program for 10+ years in a row?

You'll find this happens just about everywhere ...

A school will go through several years with just tremendous next-level talent and then there is a drop off.   Sorta the same as college, where a program will have just tremendous talent at what seems like every position for a few years, and then you see a drop off.

Lots of factors play into it.   When Tressel was pulling all that talent out of Glenville, it was just a special time in that programs history.

I've hear Coach Ginn is feeling great again - and there's more talent coming!  Also, you have to look at ALL the Cleveland schools in any particular year - sometimes a "typical" Glenville star ends up at one of the other schools wink.

I think that was due in large part to the relationship between Tressel/Ginn Sr.

I'm not sure that Meyer would have offered a lot of them, and my thought has been that the pipeline might be closed.

Anyone have a complete list of the Buckeyes from Glenville?

The Whitner-O'Neal-Ginn-Hiley era was unbelievable!

What is the last time we didn't sign a Glenville kid? 2001? (Tressel's first year). We had Marcus Hall, Christian Bryant, Cardale Jones, and De'Van Bogard the past few years - all blue chippers in my book. This year we will likely sign Chris Worley. There isn't a Ginn Jr. or Whitner every year, but the talent at Glenville is as strong as it's ever been.

Fwiw, De'Van Bogard sounds like the real deal.  They took his freshman black stripe off of his helmet before any other freshman during camp this year.

Cleveland stars are not all going to Glenville anymore. Some good coaches in the area are swaying the kids away from going there

I've been in Kansas the past 3 years. From afar it seems as if Glenville as a team is progressing in terms of state playoffs, suggesting more overall talent / better coaching, BUT it seems like there are fewer surefire OSU / D1A prospects in the program.

Which isn't completely unfathomable. When Hillard won the state championship I don't know if they sent anybody to an elite - OSU type - 1A program. Their star player - TB - is a walk on at OSU who seldom sees the field except in blowouts.

as a walk on?  We will be getting Mike Mitchell at LB and that's it.  Then we have 3 or 4 potential studs in the 2014 class at LB in McMillan, Garrett, Booker, and/or James.  Not sure Worley can play Safety, and I highly doubt we need him at LB.

RE: Why isn't Glenville a huge recruiting pipeline anymore????

That isnt the case the OSU/D1A prospects are there and the entire B1G is taking advantage of it. 2011 Aundrey Walker (USC), Frank Clark (Michigan), Shane Wynn (Indiana), Andre Sturdivant (Toledo) but had offers from Penn St, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, and Michigan st, Cardale Jones. 2012 V'angelo Bentley (Illinois), Devan Bogard, Sean Draper (Iowa), Justin Hardee (Illinois), Willie Henry (Michigan). In the last two classes that is 10 student athletes that have committed to play at OSU/B1G level programs. That doesnt include the 5 or 6 other kids that are playing the MAC. Glenville is as strong as it has ever been and I would argue to say deeper. It might not have the 5 star kids every year anymore but now it is a deeper and stronger program.

Re: Why isn't Glenville a huge recruiting pipeline anymore????

I think the OP was just talking about the large number of blue chippers we got over a span of a few years from Gville.  Like I said, it's an ebb and flow situation that all programs deal with.

That's not to say they aren't producing good recruits as of now, it just means that they had a special run of prospects that Ohio State happened to like at that time.

That type of situation can surely happen again ... you just never know.  Similar to when 2-3 teammates , or family members are apart of the same team at the same time.   Things like that "just happen" ...

The Glenville pipeline is the definition of "hit and miss".

RE: Why isn't Glenville a huge recruiting pipeline anymore????

Cleveland Heights has cut into the Glenville talent pool big time. Go through the list of Glenville recruits and where they actually came from or in quite a few cases started high school. Now many of those players are attending Cleveland Heights. I don't know exactly why, but it is fairly easy to observe.
