After our sanctions

Posted: 8/7/2012 3:09 PM

After our sanctions

are over in a few years, I would like to see Coach have a class of 20 every year.

The math works out.  Osu can count on losing three players early every year, through

early entry draft, career ending injury or transfer.  20 new guys - 3 losses = 17 net.

We are allowed 85 so 17 x 5 = 85.  JMO.

Make that 22 and you are onto something.

20 isn't enough on a per year average, there will be more than 3 player losses most years.

In all honesty, I thought about using 21 with losing 4 through various ways.

Good Lord, now we fans are going to tell Urban how many recruits he should take each year? eek All recruiting years are different and the numbers will be also.

Please be sure to inform Coach Meyer of your amazing recruiting strategy that nobody has ever though of before. I highly doubt he has ever given any though to this subject ever as he is most likely waiting on the edge of his seat for some random fan on a message board to tell him how to do his job.

During Tressels years the average was closer to 8.

If Alabama, Auburn, Arky and others can get 105-120 over a 4 year stretch, we should be able to get 88.

The good ones aren't here for 5 years (either they play their first four years or skip their last year of eligibility for the pros) - that's why the number is more like 23 or 24.  Red-shirting a few (OL for example) makes sense, but it sounds like even Urban would typically rather have them play four years and graduate.

Tressel's class numbers:

2002 - 24
2003 - 15
2004 - 26
2005 - 18
2006 - 20
2007 - 15
2008 - 20
2009 - 25
2010 - 19
2011 - 23

Average - 20.5 recruits per year.

Tressel always tried to have right around 20 recruits per year, give or take few depending on availability and need.  I expect Meyer's classes to be about the same.

Re: After our sanctions

I would not be surprised if Coach Meyer takes a few more each year, but loose a few more due to being honest about their prospects of playing. By the third year you pretty much know if a player is showing promise or is below par and will not be able to contribute at the Ohio State level. One thing Coach has done since he came to Ohio State is telling the players the honest truth in the staffs assessment.

I don't always condon the SEC ways, but Meyer may bring the "cold hard truth" to the Big Ten. The powers of the SEC are always triming the fat from their rosters. That allows them to always bring in large freshmen classes.

Re: After our sanctions

I'd like to have a class of 25 every year, and not RS as many.  We could still RS DT, OL, and QB that need a lot of development and/or strength training, but everyone else should be playing immediately.  Big dogs bite as puppies.

2014 recruiting wish list
1. Kyle Allen
2. Jamarco Jones
3. Raekwon McMillan
