LB Mike Mitchell Says OSU is #1

No Anzalone but maybe our consolation prize will be better.

Prestonwood linebacker Mike Mitchell says Ohio State is his front-runner, but others still in the Mix

Prestonwood linebacker Mike Mitchell, one of the state’s top football recruits, said he could make an oral commitment in three or four weeks and that Ohio State is at the top of his list.
“They’re the front-runner, but I guess there is still a possibility of someone else,” said the 6-4, 220-pound Mitchell, who is ranked fifth in the state and 45th in the nation in the Class of 2013 by Rivals.com. ”It’s just a great school with a great coaching staff. Everybody knows coach [Urban] Meyer. He’s got an awesome reputation. It would be a great opportunity to play there. … I’m planning to make a trip up to Ohio State in a couple of weeks.”
Mitchell, who transferred from Plano West, is still considering Florida State, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State and said he hopes to get in contact with Georgia. He also said Florida has started to show interest since he ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash and won the SPARQ national championship with a record score at The Opening last week.
Mitchell’s younger brother, Mickey, is ranked by ESPN as the the nation’s second-best basketball recruit in the Class of 2015. Mike said he could end up at the same school as his brother.
“If he likes the basketball program at the school I’m at. If they’re a good team, like Ohio State would have a good basketball team, it could work out,” Mike said.

Re: LB Mike Mitchell Says OSU is #1

Chances of  Mickey Mitchell to OSU in 2015 in hoops is great, they are close to a package deal for sure.  Mike Mitchell even noted his younger brother has wore OSU gear everywhere he goes for a while now, incredible film for a 6'7" PG/G that is only going to be a sophomore.
Both Mike and Mickey to OSU is about as done deal as it gets, both moved to Texas recently from Florida, and Mike Mitchell is a huge Urban Meyer fan from their Florida days.
Mike Mitchell with his height and frame, and throw in his camp records measureables, can easily grow into a Brian Cushing type from USC.

With the timing of his visit and what he's saying, it looks like that just might happen.

Mitchell is definitely no consolation prize. He's a fantastic athlete with endless potential. If he brings in a blue-chip basketball recruit in the form of his brother, that's an incredible bonus. What bonus would OSU get with Anzalone? His dad? No thank you.

Consolation prize?  What are you talking about?  He has a much, much higher ceiling than Anzalone and plays against much, much tougher opponents.  We will be hearing Mitchell's name all the time while Anzalone is just another highly rated recruit to do jack at Notre Dame.

Exact quote from CooperCougar on the other Mitchell thread.....

This is actually not true at all. In fact, Mitchell plays in one of the lowest level of Texas high school football (with respect to talent he'll play with and against). Prestonwood is a private school and privates in Texas play in their own separate league, the TAPPS while the rest of the state including all the public schools and the only two privates allowed to join (Dallas Jesuit and Strake Jesuit in Houston) play in the UIL.

For a private, they will only play a public school in pre-district and even then it's almost never higher than a 3A program. Prestonwood for example will play 3As Henderson and Gilmer in pre-district which will be the best judge of the talent they have since their TAPPS district is weak. Prestonwood played just one public last year, 3A Celina, and they lost that game 34-33.

That is not meant to be disparaging at all. Some privates are known for producing good college players (St. marks, Bishop Dunne, etc.) but you have to be careful when watching him because guys coming from these programs are not going up against future college players. Prestonwood's district schedule this year is basically 1A level football in Texas. For a kid like Mitchell, these combines are very important because it's the only chance you really get to see him next to and against future college players.

based on coopercougars info how likely do you think it is that mitchell plays vs MUCH MUCH better competition? short of anzalone playing in a girls league i doubt his competition is MUCH MUCH worse than a bottom of the barrell Texas division where mitchell basically won't face another fbs college caliber player the entire season.

i guess anything is possible, but a little deductive reasoning indicates the guy's comment is not true.

It really doesn't matter because at "The Opening" this kid absolutely destroyed most the field athletically...Mars,Australia,Greece,Texas, Oregon...the kids a flippin stud.

The reports from opening were great athlete freak. Most coaches recurting him at DE a true 6ft 4in has a hard time in open field tackling very raw. He has ability to be good but right now Alex A is better. They also said he wasn't noticed 7 on 7s. I wonder if he grows more does he end at DE.

Exactly. Mitchell is clearly an athletic freak and he could develop into a college linebacker to match his physical skills, but right now Anzalone is a better football player. Mitchell excelled in the SPARQ at the Opening. Anzalone excelled at the actual football competition. You guys can hate Alex and his dad all you want, but it doesn't change the reality that your coach pinpointed him as one of the top priorities in his first full recruiting class.

Actually he said Texas was the only school recruiting him at DE, so you're wrong about that, which is to be expected.

7v7? "Actual football competition."? Can you show me where Anzalone excelled, while Mitchell struggled?

Meyer offered Anzalone in February, Mitchell in March...both were a priority.

You'd think the better football player wouldn't have such underwhelming stats.
