Zach Darlington

Posted: 6/4/2013 11:10 AM

Zach Darlington

With Allen off to aTm and Harris sending out a few signs on the last 2 days or so that point him to LSU its looking more and more like Darlington will be our QB recruit in the class

Darlington a 6'2 215 runs in the low-mid 4.4's. Son of a HS football coach plays in Floridas highest division where he lead his team to the state title last year and they look to be the favorites this year.

I've heard alot of comparisons but i think the 2 best (one best case and one worse case) is Manziel from the Aggies or Martinez from Nebraska but bigger and stronger

Darlington has pretty good arm strength but he can definatley use work on his accuracy. He's lighting quick and fast so when he gets in the open field or one on one with a defender its over.

Ohio State is competing mostly with Nebraska and Arizona here for this one

Re: Zach Darlington

Darlington is a stud and is a Tebow clone except he can actually throw.  Darlington would be perfect in Urban's offense and Darlington knows that, that is why he is so high on the Buckeyes.  It would not surprise me in the least to see Darlington end up a Buckeye!  He would be a good one at Ohio State!!! He would be utilized incorrectly at other schools that don't fit his style.

2015 recruit wish list
1. Josh Sweat
2. Damien Harris
3. Neville Gallimore
4. Matt Burrell

With Allen off the board, I want Harris more. But would take Zach in a heartbeat. Kid is super under rated. Watch his film, its nice. wink

If the main competition is Nebraska and Arizona, he should be a Buckeye. It is a national championship caliber program vs. two mediocre programs.

Darlington can play. He is in a tough class and won a state title as a junior. They had their spring game vs my buddy's school he teaches at (Winter Haven) last week...and he said the kid is the real deal.

Re: Zach Darlington

Darlington said when OSU offered, it was the offer he wanted.
He is a big fan of Urban Meyer and his offense from his UF days and last year with Miller.
Coaches kid that plays against elite competition.
Kind of reminds you of a mix of Manziel and Taylor Martinez, beat you with his arm or his legs, that puts immense pressure on defenses.

Re: Zach Darlington

Seen him play a bunch. He is a good one for sure. Apopka plays 8A Fl HS ball. That's as big as it gets and IMO and produces as much D1 talent as ANY area in the nation. Saying that Zach has not been asked YET to win games himself. Apopka has had a VERY good line and 2 backs that both went to D1 schools. This year its known and been put to Zach that this is his team and its time to try and take over games. I don't yet have my production schedule but will be seeing him play a few times this season.
Beast the Tebow comparison ends with his running ability. He has a quick release and very good mechanics when he has time. Point being He will beat with his arm 1st.

That's what we should want--a guy who beats you with his passing ability.  We don't need run first guys because we don't have Bollman's weak offensive lines any more.

Zach seems like a legit 4.4 kid, Locker ran a 4.6 at the combine I believe.

Re: Zach Darlington

Big difference was OSU was Harris's first real big offer after coaches watching him throw in spring football, then came Bama, LSU, Auburn and 1/2 others.
Darlington never had that occur, it is night and day of demand on a QB after an OSU offer.

Again, Darlington is not the type of athlete that Locker was.

If you seriously believe that, then I dont know what to tell you.

Re: Zach Darlington

Yeah but once again Darlington is a better thrower than Jake Locker was...especially in H.S. Like comparing a corvette to a chevette...Darlington fits us perfectly. Harris need some serious polishing...

Even then , I dunno. He may be a little more accurate at this stage. But I think your seriously downplaying Locker. The man has an absolute cannon. Jack Locker is one of the more under appreciated college players in recent memory to me. He was on some absolutely AWFUL Husky teams, I mean just pitiful. He was everything, and he did it ALL but himself. He would have won the Heisman if at a school like tOSU, Texas or USC.
