Drew Barker

Posted: 4/26/2013 3:21 PM

Drew Barker

Looks like he will be the qb in this class or am I mistaken?

How good is he? Not a big recruiting guy anymore but do usually get interested in qbs of the future.

Re: Drew Barker

Watched his film kid looks like he has above average speed, good to great power and a strong arm. Looks like a nice fit to the Urban Meyer system and a good compliment to JT Barrett who in my opinion is still a better runner than thrower at this point.

Apparently the staff just contacted him for the first time in awhile. I am guessing they might be moving on from Watson.

JT Barrett is still a pretty good passer, much further along than Braxton was at this point.

Good, Barker is the one I wanted to begin with. Hope he decides to become a Buckeye.

IMO not as good as the QBs in the 2013 class and the ones in 2015 seem to be just as good if not better. I think Harris is better and has more potential, Braxton's QB coach called him the next "Monster" QB

Barker is not going to Ohio State, and IMO thats a good thing. Have actually seen him play in person many times, just not worth the hype. Locals seem to think its down to SC-Spurrier or UK. I think Stoops makes a big splash with the state and lands him.

Perhaps Kizer is the way to go? Seems to be a project, but then so is Cordale Jones. Plus if he does not pan out at QB, he has the build for a WR or TE depending on how much he fills out?

Thoughts on Kizer?

Would not bother me at all to not have a qb in this class. Braxton is a 4 year guy. Barett gets a RS this year, and plays a year as 5's backup. Watson is the only one i wanted. With scol limited, go elsewhere.

Disagree.  And I bet Urban does too.  QB is simply too important position to not recruit every year.  I find it laughable the notion that there is only one "OSU worthy" QB in the 2014 class.

RE: Drew Barker

I agree that we need to take a QB this year and one every year for that matter. QB is a the most important position on the field and it has a high transfer rate.

RE: Drew Barker

I would like Urban and staff to keep pushing Caleb Henderson to reconsider Ohio State.  banghead
Who knows, maybe they are?

Henderson had us in the lead for quite a while this year and last summer.

2015 recruiting wish list
1. Tim Settle
2. Justin Hilliard
3. Minkah Fitzpatrick

Ignore

Having Braxton, Barrett and Cardale next year is good enough.  Most teams don't carry four QB's but that being said I believe we have a good shot at Barker.  Urban will talk with him in the next day or two and he is excited to get the offer.  Barker would fit really well in the BUckeye system and would challenge Barrett.

It seems to me that Henderson jumped the gun in committing to NC. He should have waited until the summer camps are over before committing to any program.

2014 is not a strong year for QBs in general

What if Braxton go's early? It could happen if he has a spectacular year. Or say his senior year he gets hurt?

RE: Drew Barker

It could but the chances are slim to none.  Early reports are that he has improved his throwing and reading the defenses but Braxton has the potential to do better this year and maybe be a low 1st rounder or continue to improve and be a high first rounder.  Big difference in money

RE: Drew Barker

Braxton will not go early unless he wants to be a RB at the next level. If he has any brains at all, he will stay since he still has a lot to learn.

As others have said, no chance he leaves. If he gets hurt his SR year Jones has been with the program for 3 years and barrett will have been in the system for a over a year.

You missed my point. Scholarships are too limited right now to take a flyer just to say there is a QB in this class. Watson was the only one that had INTEREST in OSU that I feel was worthy of a precious slot. Of course there are more out there, but at this point they have shown no interest. Barker is simply not one I want. When you watch him play, there is just something missing. Think Robby Schoenhoft. Again, most around here feel he is UK all the way. Stoops is doing exactly what I thought he would, which is come in and take away that marginal Ohio product that is just below OSU standards but still a very good football player. I stated when he got the UK job that he would not hurt OSU, but would really affect the classes of Mich State and Wisky. He is beginning to do that.
