If Matta can finish off this impressive 2014 class with another big man and PG, and we are in on quite a few for 14, 2015 will be a monster haul.  The top 3 elites in Ohio for 15 are national top players like Ohio of a few years ago, and OSU leads for them.  Add Mitchell, and OSU hoops is set for a long long time, minus the dreaded early defections to the NBA.
NBA early defections can make a top 5 program outside the top 20 for one year easily, depending on how many bolt.

You seem to be about 100% certain we get Mickey Mitchell, and knowledgeable of his recruitment. Hope your right. Just wondering if you know if he will be basketball only, or a two sport athlete, basketball seems to be more his thing? By the way, what does GBW stand for?

Re: Mickey Mitchell Class of 2015

According to TrinityTex, he'll be 19 when he graduates.  He'll be on the older end of 19 obviously, but I don't see how it's strange at all?

Consider that his birthday is in September.  Do you make him a young K or do you wait until the next year?  In my district, you must be 5 before Oct. 1st to start K.  We also have a young five K.

Then, if he got held back a year for any reason at all (grades, maturity, injury, illness), that puts him at 19 in his senior year.
jbolin999 wrote: Something like that. He'll be a 20 year old high school graduate. That isn't very normal lol.
trinitytex wrote: I believe that is literally (to the month) as old as you can be and still be eligible in high school sports in Texas.

Sounds like he went the wrestling route and was redshirted as an 8th grader.

Good point. I didn't know that, but after a quick search I read that he'll be 19 in Sept. of his senior year and 20 before he plays in college. Not unheard of, but definitely not the norm.

After tearing his ACL in football. He is an elite basketball player and I doubt will play organized football ever again.

RE: Mickey Mitchell Class of 2015

If he will indeed be 19+ when he graduates high school, football may indeed be his best long term option.

In basketball he will probably be maxed out when he graduates and others will catch up to him over the next 2 years. On the other hand he would be a mature QB ready to take the step up in college quicker than someone who is 18.

Players tear ACLs in football AND basketball all the time.

He was born in September of 1995, and will be 19, going on 20, when he graduates in the class of 2015. When was his brother Mike born (class of 2013)?

RE: Mickey Mitchell Class of 2015

Is this a joke? Mickey probably doesn't even play another snap of football again after his injury. He's 6'7" and can handle the ball like a guard; even if he doesn't grow another inch, he has a rare skillset. His upside in basketball is exponentially higher. There is a reason he already has dozens of basketball offers and none for football.

He's a top 5-10 national hoops prospect.
Haven't seen him listed as a top 100 prospect in his class in football.

Ummm, because that video was posted in September of 2012 and is highlights of his freshman season and subsequent summer?

And regarding the age issue, if that video was of a 6'7" sophomore would you still be impressed? I sure would be.
