Michigan in Oho, OSU everywhere

Got to looking at these two classes and noticed some interesting stuff. Both classes are great and due to the fact Meyer didn't have as much time as Hoke did to prepare for this class Hoke won some battles early.

But it turned out to be fine for Meyer and OSU. Some of these comparisons are not perfect by any means, but the fact Michigan grabbed 9 players out of Ohio meant Ohio State had to get 9 other guys.

Here's how it broke down:

Michigan got from Ohio:----------------------------------------Ohio State replaced with:

  • Dymonte Thomas—5* (#4 S)--------------------------Vonn Bell—5* (#2 S)
  • Deveon Smith—4* (#11 RB)---------------------------Ezekiel Elliott—4* (#9 RB)
  • Mike McCray—4* (#24 OLB)---------------------------Trey Johnson—4* (#16 OLB)
  • Ben Gedeon—4* (#14 OLB)---------------------------Mike Mitchell—5* (#2 MLB)
  • Jaron Dukes—3* (#60 WR)----------------------------James Clark—4* (#30 WR)
  • Taco Charlton—4* (#21 DE)---------------------------Tyquan Lewis—4* (#25 DE)
  • Jake Butt—4* (#5 TE)----------------------------------Marcus Baugh—4* (#3 TE)
  • Reon Dawson—3* (#42 CB)----------------------------Eli Apple—4* (#11 CB)
  • Ross Douglas—3* (#55 DB)----------------------------Dontre Wilson (#10 RB)

In only one case (Charlton and Lewis) does Scout rate the Ohioan going to Michigan higher than the recruit Ohio State got.

I know this isn't full proof, or shows that Ohio shouldn't be the recruiting focus (it should be), but it does show that, in this recruiting year anyway, Ohio State had a better class by focusing nationally rather than inside the state.
