It seems like some people assumed they knew everything about stats and left class before they got to the part about sample size.

well out of the 12, Browne, Davis, McQuay, Rodgers, Mitchell, Cravens, and Bigelow are all studs. That is just 7 people off the top of my head. To compete, though, you need DEPTH and, most importantly, a COMPETENT COACH.

Exactly. Here is a quick statistics question for all the brainiacs on this board.
How many trials do you need to perform in order to prove that a certain outcome occurs 1% of the time?

RE: USC goes from #1 rated class in Nov. to finish #14
L.A. is the biggest advantage in the history of recruiting. If I were a big-time recruit and not a die-hard fan of a team such as the Buckeyes from birth, I'd want to play for the Trojans. Weather, girls, lifestyle. SoCal is the spot and there's not a close second. The avg star ranking should always be off the chain at USC, gotta wonder what the problem was in he 90's?

RE: USC goes from #1 rated class in Nov. to finish #14
I don't track team rankings too closely, but how much was their change in status due to de-commits and how much was due to other teams continuing to get more commits? Team rankings are typically some combination of quality and quantity together. I know they have scholarship restrictions, but does anyone know whether they got the max number that they could take this year?
Regardless, I don't care if anything good ever happens to USC, but if a program is stuck having to take a smaller class, I'm sure they'd like it to look like the one USC just landed.
Of course, one has to wonder whether they'll be able to maintain their recruiting success if they have more mediocre seasons on the way. Kiffin the recruiter might not be able to escape the effects of Kiffin the coach....

Grow up! It's okay to disagree with me, even if you are missing the point, but it doesn't warrant getting personal. Most of your 1300 posts on this board are just you attacking other posters and calling people names. truebuckeye99 wrote:

Re: USC goes from #1 rated class in Nov. to finish #14
The gist of this thread was ragging on USC because they dropped from the No. 1 rated class. They got most of their recruits early while other schools had recruits commit all the way through today. And the quality of USC's recruits is unmatched. Why do you continue to perpetuate a thread that you made a mistake on. You try to cover your stupidity and you just make yourself look dumber. Look at what coopercouger and others are saying. Basically the same thing I am writing, but nicer and not as direct. Take a break from the board. Crapping on Justin Zwick was just another thread to solidify your lack of worth on the board. OSU81 wrote: Grow up! Re: USC goes from #1 rated class in Nov. to finish #14
No, the gist of this thread is that they had a #1 class of 18 or so recruits in November and lost a bunch of recruits which dropped them all the way to #14.
You are arguing against a point that I did not make which makes YOU look stupid.

The quality of their recruits is unmatched? Yeah because there is so few of them.
They are not going to win many games taking 12 recruits, no matter how many stars they have.

coopercougar wrote: USC just signed the highest quality class (in terms of star average) in the history of Rivals.com and Scout.com. Stop and think about that for a second. True - but they lost ONE THIRD (6) of the kids they had when they were #1. Imagine how impressive THAT class would have been? No one is shedding tears for Kiffin. The "thing" about this class is the WHY behind the SIX defections.

Better not try to use logic or truebuckeye99 won't understand. "True - but they lost ONE THIRD (6) of the kids they had when they were #1." otterbeinbuckeye wrote: The quality of their recruits is unmatched? Yeah because there is so few of them.

Kiffin will be gone after next season. His personality clashes with the AD. The AD is a good man.

Re: USC goes from #1 rated class in Nov. to finish #14
The 2003 osu class would like a word. 3 BCS wins and a title game loss. This fourteen person class saw a trio leave early for the nfl (whitner, Gonzalez, youboty) and only one other player finish eligibility (Dave Patterson). The rest of the class flunked out or finished as a medical hardship.
Obviously you don't want to be in the situation, but those classes can be overcome. --------------------------------------------- --- otterbeinbuckeye wrote:

Jack Del Rio is being brought up, but I don't know, I would love to see Jeff Fisher run the USC program... I think Kiffen holds the whistle for another two years, and as USC comes out of sanctions, they go and get their guy. You know who would could be great at USC, Bill O'Brein ... USC always runs an NFL type system... he could be a good over there.

They are not going to win many games taking 12 recruits, no matter how many stars they have. Their quality is not just this year or because of 12 guys, go back over the last 10 years and they have the highest avg * ratings of any program. Now of course not all those guys pan out, but USC is always a 3.75 - 4.0 average.

I bet you if USC didn't have any decommits they would still only be in the 8-12 intstead of 14. Now saying that I don't care either way about USC just stating that yes USC class faltered down the end but i think other teams filling out their class is the bigger reason why they dropped.
